All Nippon Airways Mileage Club - How much are taxes for this award?
Hi,
I've been playing around with the ANA award tool and am trying to work out how much an award will cost me. I'd be transferring the miles so I don't have them in my account yet so it won't give me the cost of taxes, just the miles.
It's a simple round trip in C class MEL-BKK-HKT on TG, returning the same way. Is there anyone here that can find the answer for me?
Thanks

http://matrix.itasoftware.com is the best option - plug in your itinerary and check the items that appear under taxes.
In your case, it appears to be:
TG YR surcharge (YR) AU$30.00
Australian Safety & Security Surcharge (WG) AU$3.98
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) AU$14.18
Australian Passenger Movement Charge (AU) AU$47.00
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) AU$14.18
For a total of USD109.07 for the roundtrip.
So no fuel surcharges? :)
thanks

No I'm afraid it is untrue...
Unfortunately, your itinerary requires 85000 NH miles + approx jpy 28550 (AUD 360).
According to my dummy booking on Y-class retn (MEL-BKK-HKT vv) owing to insufficient
inventory on my account I have done on Y-calss, pardon.
The website says :
1. Thai passenger service fee jpy 1800
2. Travel insurance and fuel charges jpy 20280
3. Others jpy 6470
--------------------------------------------------
Total cost jpy 28550 ---> AUD 360
Pls be aware above. Happy award travel to HKT !
Thanks kazuwox for clearing that up.

I figured out why the amount was different.
If you choose NRT as the sales city and JPY as the currency on ITA, it gives the following:
TG YQ surcharge (YQ) ¥1,000
TG YQ surcharge (YQ) ¥19,280
Australian Safety & Security Surcharge (WG) ¥330
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) ¥1,160
Australian Passenger Movement Charge (AU) ¥3,820
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) ¥1,160
However, if you select MEL as the sales city and AUD as the currency, you get the same as what I put in the first post:
TG YR surcharge (YR) AU$30.00
Australian Safety & Security Surcharge (WG) AU$3.98
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) AU$14.18
Australian Passenger Movement Charge (AU) AU$47.00
Australian Int'l Passenger Service Charge (WY) AU$14.18
The difference is in the way they collect the fuel surcharge between Japan and Australia. In the case of Japan, they collect everything as a YQ tax item. In Australia, they charge the fuel surcharge within the fare calculation as a Q-charge instead of a tax item, which means it's listed as part of the "base fare" but still charged separately.
MEL TG X/BKK Q145.00 TG HKT 1873.97JE6MFAUP TG X/BKK TG MEL Q145.00 1873.97JE6MFAUP NUC 4037.94 END
So, you still pay the same in the end, but it's collected as a "tax" in Japan, and included as part of the "fare" in Australia. Either way, expensive! :o
Interesting. I guess then if using NH for an award it will price in JPY with ticketing in Japan and the YQ will be added onto the award rather than included in the 'base fare'.
cheers
