Hong Kong and Macau - Visiting HK with an eye to moving here -- where to stay (esp during CNY)

Hi there.

I'm arriving in HKG on Jan 20 (at night) - staying until day 2 of CNY; leaving for SIN and then returning for 2 more nights in HKG.

I'm considering moving with my girlfriend to HKG for a few months or longer; and I'd like to scope out the various neighborhoods to help suss out where we might want to live.

Any recommendations on places to stay and neighborhoods we *have* to see? I'm tempted to stay at a Starwood location due to the point benefit right now, but that's by no means mandatory. I'm clueless (starting to read tomorrow) on the neighborhoods.
