Wow, this is weird.
"...an appeals court found that the estate of a man killed by a train while crossing the Edgebrook Metra station tracks can be held liable after a part of his body sent airborne by the collision struck and injured a bystander."

A weird event I agree...
..but presumably the deceased was found to be at fault (or whatever the legal term is) ..and the person injured by the body part is presumably entitled to compensation.. so it makes absolute sense to me!

If I was injured by a flying body part I fear that I would be seeking payment for both physical and psychological care. Something else to put on my "I hope this never happens to me" list.

Can you edit the headline to make it a bit more accurate?
Man running for Metra struck by Amtrak, killed; sued(1) when body causes injury, loses(2)
1: The man running for the train didn't sue. The person struck by his body sued.
2: When the appeals court says you have a case, you haven't lost.

Fine.
I am not going to bother a Mod about the headline I cannot modify.

I understood what you meant by the title.
What a weird and litigious world we live in....

The true weirdness is that there is seemingly an outright suicide-by-Metra or "accidental" death (intentionally going around lowered crossing gates) at least once a week, including the former Metra CEO. Try to find another city in the US with as high of a number for one of it's train lines.

Once a week?
Yes, like I said, seemingly once a week.
