I get to Hanoi a few times a year. Here are some restaurant recommendations: Fine French Dining - Le Beaulieu – Sofitel Metropole Hotel, 5-10 minute walk south of the Hoan Kiem Lake. Expensive and formal! Green Tangerine – 1928. French Vietnamese in old colonial house with courtyard. 5 minute walk from hotel just north of Hoan Kiem Lake and Puppet Theater. 48 Hang Be Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, Vietnam. Tel: 04.3825 1286. Moderately highly priced. Indochine Vietnamese Restaurant – Nice Vietnamese Setting – 5 minute taxi from hotel (15 minute walk). 16 Nam Ngu Street, Hoan Kiem District, 84.4.942.4097 Dac Kim, Vietnamese street food, noodle soup and pork. 10 minute walk from hotel. 24, Hang Ga, Hoan Kiem. 8AM-8PM. Quan An Ngon (often called "Delicious") 18 Phan Boi Chau in Hoan Kiem District. Authentic. Great surroundings. Trust me--you WILL like this. Very reasonable pricing. Under $10 for dinner including a drink. Madame Hien. 15 Chan Cam in Hoan Kiem District. $10-15. Very nice old home setting and wonderful Vietnamese food. Highly recommended. Lucky Bar-Restaurant. 11 Hangbe Street in Hoan Kiem District. Second floor bar/restaurant. Nothing fancy but ok food and cheap beer. So why the recommendation? Nice view of the very busy street if you get a table upstairs at the balcony. Namaste Hanoi. This is authentic Indian food. Very affordable and excellent! The best Indian food in Vietnam and, according to my Indian friends, maybe the best Indian food outside of Vietnam. 47 Lo Su Street just a couple of blocks from the Water Puppet Theater. If you like Indian food, you MUST go to this restaurant. Enjoy!
