Singapore - help with which hotel is closer to...
Looking to do a Run to SIN (will stay for 4 days) trying to figure out which of these 2 following Hotels is closest to Orchard Rd and Bencoolen
* I will be walking! 1- IC @ 80 Middle Rd or 2-Holiday Inn (Orchard City Center) 11 Cavenagh Rd
the Intercontinental is 15k more per night so if the HI isnt that much further Id go with the HI. Im looking to be there the last week of Jan, so if it will be very hot or raining Im best with the Hotel that will be closest, if the difference is but a couple of mins then the HI will win out

Yeah, if your final destination is Orchard/Bencoolen where the SMU/Museum is, it will be about 50-50.
From HI, the walk will be a little more pleasant and you will be able to duck into the MRT for 1 stop if you so prefer/rain/tired/hot/etc. It is a more "touristy" walk if that's a way to describe it.
From the IC, you may be 1-2 mins closer but you may end up spending more of it along busy Victoria Street.
In terms of rain, well, if my experience holds out, count of it happening for a hour or 2 each day, regardless. Usually in the late afternoons.
One more thing. Late Jan is the Lunar New Year. Expect both areas to be crowded, the HI area especially since it is much closer to the main Orchard Rd drag.

Thanks, thats a no can do with the MRT, I must walk it no other choice. Also will be there 1/27 so thats after New Years, will miss it by 4 days
If I stay @ IC Id end up walking up Middle Rd to Waterloo St and make a left onto Waterloo (which is the block between Bencoolen and Victoria) I said Bencoolen since most people will know where that is and maybe not Waterloo
If there are equally distant then the HI is probably better as a Plat PC member I can maybe get an Upgrade and theres an exec lounge, while at the IC since Im not a RA I will get nothing

Waterloo is one block closer to the IC and one block farther from the HI. Something else to consider is that the walk to/from the HI is much more hilly.
Is SMU your destination?

Nope, as I posted in my 2nd post I need Waterloo off of Orchard , (which at that point is called Bras Basah Rd) its 20 something Waterloo. I assumed that the #s start from Orchard and go up and then again 20 something might not be so close to Orchard
is it really hilly as in steep? I can huff it out but in very hot temps will sweat like a pig and would rather blow the 30k extra in pts.
Walking up from 1st Ave in Seattle to 6th Ave at night in the spring with a wind I was sweating and that was like at 11pm. No problem walking up but when I got to the hotel from the look on peopels faces I probably looked as if I took a shower and forgot to take my clothes off
never been to SIN , doing it for the EQMs 22+k for $727 after a $400 VDB applied

Nah ... nothing is steep in Singapore. At least not like Seattle or San Francisco steep. The HI is on a LITTLE bit of an uphill ... you roll "down" towards orchard road. Elevation change ... maybe 50 ft. :) Once you are on Orchard, its all level towards the Bras Basah direction. (Not many people remember this but historically, a large open canal ran the length Orchard Rd like a river so its pretty flat. Since the 80s, most of this has been covered over and I hear it floods every so often now ... ah ... progress.)
If it were me, for the factors you pointed out, I'll stay at the HI.

Thanks I booked the HI, someone emailed me a google map and that showed the IC as being 8 mins and the HI as 19 mins. But at least with the HI an Upgrade may pan out as well the Lounge, while with the IC Nothin

I used to stay at Somerset, which is the Orchard Road stop for the Holiday Inn on the MRT... used to always take the T3 shuttle bus to the airport from there, since I could pre-book it online and just walk to the hotel rather than having to argue on the phone for a booking which they suggested should be made a few hours before your trip (I'm not staying up until 2am for a 4am booking) which was great, since every time I was the only passenger on board (except for one time when the bus didn't show up... so the $9 bus ride turned into a $26 taxi ride)
The walk to SMU is extremely pleasant from the Holiday Inn, in case of rain you could always pop into Plaza Singapura or other shopping areas along the way including Concord Hotel or The Cathay. 20 something Waterloo address sounds very familiar, had a few meetings there one with an interesting IT company doing some very interesting iPhone/iPad apps.
