Hi All,
My honeymoon is coming up in a couple of weeks and I have a few questions I was hoping some of the people on this board might be able to shed light for me . . .
1. Zurich Tour : I’ve read the excellent thread about touring Zurich in the summer. What about the winter? I’m assuming Zurich hovers around 0’C in January typically. We’re arriving 7am, depart 1p on a Saturday in January. I’d like to take my wife on a quick tour of Zurich. Can anyone recommend a simple tour that we can do in 4 hours? What are a couple “must-see” places in Zurich?
2. Duty Free : Flying ZRH-BKK-HKT, Can I buy duty free booze at ZRH? Is there a liquid limitation like there is in USA? Or Can I carry on 1L of liquor at much connection to HKT in BKK?
3. I know this has been discussed . . . Is there a general consensus on the best lounge in ZRH for J passengers (we’re flying Thai in J)

Really appreciate everyone’s help. // Happy Holidays

This winter is quite 'hot' in Europe - today it was like 5 degrees (Celsius scale = 40F).

I would just avoid Panorama Lounge and stick to SEN or Business Lounges (depending on your status) in the main terminal. During late evening peak normally there is no food left and there are no seats available in Panorama Lounge (OK - some seats may be available if Korean Air ZRH-ICN flight is not scheduled to depart on that day:p).

Make sure that any liquids are in the properly sealed bags and that the store receipt is showing which proves when they were purchased (IIRC, there is a 24 hour rule).

In addition, you should pay close attention to the duty free alcohol limits when entering Thailand

For four hours, I'd take the train into Zurich HB and then just walk around the centre part of the city. You can take the tram down Banhofstrasse and walk around the lake, along with crossing the Limmat to see the Grossmünster.

Must-see probably depends on what you & your spouse enjoy.

You can buy duty free on arrival at both BKK and Phuket.. but your flight from BKK will be domestic, so you may not be able to buy in the arrivals duty free shop there. Likewise, they can be strict on the transit of liquids from outside the airport in BKK. You will pass security again for your domestic flight and Zurich purchased duty free may not be allowed through, even in a sealed bag. I would buy on arrival at Bangkok, but check first with the shop that you can take it through the domestic security. If they won't let BKK purchased liquids through, they certainly won't let ZRH duty free through. The other alternative is to check with the King Power duty free shop in BKK whether they will let you buy on arrival at Phuket as you have come from an international leg. You can check a lot of this here http://www.dutyfreeonarrival.com/en/search/Thailand

Zurich is a boring city...
I think the Duty free in ZRH is one of the most expensive ones in the world..
take a hotel room in the airport....

Zurich is beautiful, civilized and exciting!

You can reach the centre in ten minutes by train.
A day ticket is rather cheap and allows u unlimited use of public transport.
Including the boats in the lake!
Ask at the tourist information office in the main station (Hauptbahnhof).

You may walk around the centre, visit a museum or go shopping....
Department stores are not that expensive.

Zurich lounges are comfortable but the food is very limited. Especially in the "Business" lounges. But there is a variety of places to eat at the airport.

Enjoy ur day in Zurich.

In terms of touring Zurich, I would take the train to the main station and walk along the river from the main station and visit the Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches, the latter with the famous Chagall stained glass windows:

At this time of year, your option for boat trips is a little limited but this might work:

http://www.zsg.ch/departure-1000-h-426.html

Departs at 10 a.m. and returns at 11:25 a.m. You could still get back to the airport by noon and would have a little time before the boat trip to walk around the city.
