When Regional trains have the cafe cars with 2-1 leather seating, is that considered Business Class?

Yep, that is business class. Not bad, used it between CHI and KAL, quieter, and got a beverage.

Since NE Regionals have a separate Business Class car, I was thinking maybe the "extra" one would be considered as standard seating. Wishful thinking, perhaps.

Well, I could be wrong, I wasnt on a NE regional, I was on a Chicago train, could be different.

If there's a club-cafe on an NE Regional in addition to a full-length Business Class car, from what I've heard the club seats (which are far superior to standard Business) are open to everyone! I would immediately request a downgrade from the conductor if ticketed in Business with inferior seating, even if the cafe car is louder and I'd be giving up other amenities.

Chicago hub trains almost always have the great club seats as Business Class. ^

Couldn't you just go sit there, in the cafe car's club seats?

Most of the value in Business Class is the hard product. If I can get the same for a coach fare, the soda and newspaper alone don't justify the upcharge.

I ended up walking back and asking the cafe attendant. He said it was considered Business Class. So, we've got some conflicting information.

I was just passing along what I heard from anecdotes. As with many things Amtrak, I'm sure it depends on the crew.

No problem. I have seen Regionals with two full Business cars, where one was treated as regular seating. Would be nice if Amtrak had a consistent policy amongst crews for this type of situation.
