I'm taking my first flight on LA soon to CUZ via JFK and LIM in J. I'm really looking forward to trying out the lie-flat seats, but had a few questions about the connections.

In JFK, I will be coming from an AA flight (on the same PNR). What is the minimum time you think it is possible to make the transfer from AA in T8 to the LA 531 in T4? I'll be doing carry on only (coming from AA mainline) and I'm a fast runner. There is a flight I'm eyeing with a (legal) 1hr 45m connection, but I know there can be frequent delays at JFK so I wanted to see what is a feasible transfer if we are running late.

Second, in LIM is there a lounge with showers I can use as a OW Emerald and J passenger? How much time do you recommend for the connection to clear customs and have time to shower in the lounge before continuing to CUZ? I'll be arriving at 6:30am.

Thanks!

Immigration and customs should be painless at 6:30am.

There is no Arrivals lounge in LIM. You could have access to the Caral Vip Lounge in the Domestic departures area - but this lounge is not listed on the OW site so I don't really know for sure if you'd get access. Maybe someone who has been there will have some more info.

This is a new lounge, it's open 24h and has showers. You can see some info here on their website (http://nlg.aero/en/viploungesvc.html). On the last page here (http://www.lap.com.pe/lap_portal/index.html) it mentions "access through affiliated airlines and tour operators" and Priority Pass.

Hi. Well, a legal connection should do it, the train runs frequently between the terminals.

Now, being philosophical here, risk is a function of probability times consequence. You can probably accept high probability if the consequences are low, but not high consequences even if the probability is low. Is missing your flight a high consequence to you? Only you can decide, but as you stated the connection is legal and do-able. Security is busy at that time, but with J boarding pass you can use the fast lane.

Agree with Andreabdc, no arrivals showers that I know of. Also, as she mentions there is that new lounge in the domestic departures secure side, it is the VIP, accessible by Priority Pass. Popped my head in once, looked small but comfy. Not a LAN lounge though, they do not have one there.

I just checked LAN's website and it metions the SUMAQ lounge:
http://www.lan.com/en_us/sitio_personas/volar_en_lan/experiencia_de_viaje/salones_vip.html

Is that not accessible from the departure area to CUZ (or prior to clearing customs?)

As far as risk of missing the connection, I'm trying to figure out how much time is actually needed for the transfer to judge the likelihood of making it. If you need 1.5hrs even with carry ons and fast lane, there is no way I'm taking that flight. However if I hear people have made the transfer in 30 minutes and LAN allows you to arrive at the gate at T-15, that is a risk I can obviously take.

Hi. Yes, but the Sumaq lounge is on the sterile side of international departures, you'll not be going there until your return.

That lounge will be full in the evenings - you'll even wait some time to get attention at the bar.

Too many variables for my liking - I have enough other things to worry about than not making the connection. What if your flight is late coming in (it has happened before, you know :D)
I would play it safe and give myself more time at JFK and relax in the lounge.
But that's just me :)

And the barman is so amargo. I just had a luca chilena in my hand to give him for my pisco sour, but he didnīt even look up or respond to my īgracias.ī This is not the first time heīs been so amargo.

ps- they tried to send us to VIP when we got to SUMAQ but I said I wanted to use the business center, which had seats, and she let us in.

It will be nice when the airport is expanded and LAN or OW has its own lounge.

I think it should be possible to get into Sumaq if you take a fake OLCI boarding pass and a Priority Pass card. Won't work as a OW elite because you need your invite.

You also have to lie to the connections guy and tell him you are going somewhere. We nearly got in last week but fell at the final hurdle when the woman at Sumaq asked to see the boarding pass.

A bit of a round the houses and stupid way of doing it, but hey, never say never

And then when he didn't get anything, he probably thought I was Australian. (Well, he didn't look up so he had no idea, in any event.)
