In order to meet my OW Megado AA EXP challenge I decided to take a weekend trip to Budapest. Based on reviews on Trip Advisor I have reserved a room at the Palazzo Zichy, but can always switch that, please let me know if that's a good choice. I'm looking for advise regarding where to go out dine and be entertained :)
I'm going alone so any tips are immensely appreciated :)

That hotel looks to be in a decent location. Budapest is a very walkable city. Check out http://budapest.gayguide.net for information on nightlife, etc.

Have a good time. Budapest is one of my favorite cities to visit. I have always traveled alone there, and had no trouble meeting people who speak a little english. Just be aware that in the bars, you will likely be approached by rent boys, but if you are not interested, they will not bother you. I actually made friends with one, who took me touring during the day for just a few forints. We stay in touch still.

Dont miss the baths. My favorite was Rudas, but many people also like Kiraly.

When my partner and I were in Budapest in May this year, we made a moderate attempt to check out the scene - turned out to be harder than we had expected, with most bars being ultra dingy and rent boys everywhere. Have heard some horror stories re: the gay scene in Budapest and the weary traveller.

Its a great town if you know locals who know how to integrate into the underground scene, which is more what you would be looking for. Perhaps jump on Gaydar or something and strike up a conversation with a local, and maybe they can meet up with you at the beginning of your trip and show you around?

Sorry i'm not much help :)

I hope I am not too late to answer your post.

I have been to Budapest a couple of times. It is a great city. As you may already know, it is better to stay on the Pest side. There is not much happening on the Buda side besides the castle. In fact, most of the hotels and restaurants are on the Pest side.

Both times I stayed at a gay owned/ run bed&breakfast called Connections Guest House. It is close to the train stop, near the main thoroughfare in Pest, and quite accessible to everything. There are a few high-end hotels in Budapest, but why stay at a sterile chain hotel when you have a nice gay b&b? Don't expect Connections to be a standard hotel, it is the first floor of a building converted in to a b&b (you can visit their website for pics). Service, however, is great. I was picked up by one of their staff from the airport. The owner/ manager is a very friendly guy.

If I am guessing correctly, you are looking for "fun" things to do in Budapest. Well, the bathhouses are great. I had to tell no to many guys in the bathhouses. Perhaps, it was the allure of a foreigner, perhaps it was because I have brown skin. Either way, I was immensely "satisfied" at those bathhouses. Of course, there was fun to be had at the b&b as well. My exhibitionist tendencies were in full force :)

All in all, I will go back to Budapest in a heart beat :)
