S American leaders have been having a bad time of it lately with health problems. Gaucho100K Dec 28, 11, 9:20 am The Official Press releases indicate that the ilness was caught in the very early stages, and that a full recovery is expected. The President is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday, Jan 4th and will be taking leave until Jan 24th. Vice President Amado Bodou will be in charge of the Executive during this period. Gaucho100K Dec 28, 11, 9:23 am I understand that a highly respected Oncologist is a regular contributor to these forums.... it would be interesting to have an educated view discuss the details of what the chances of full recovery are for cases like these..... jimmac Dec 31, 11, 9:19 am I understand that a highly respected Oncologist is a regular contributor to these forums.... it would be interesting to have an educated view discuss the details of what the chances of full recovery are for cases like these..... +1 One of statements made by her office is that it hasn't spread to lymph nodes. My experience with family members with cancer is that lymph nodes are only removed and taken to the lab during and after surgery. Can they be removed during a biopsy in sufficient numbers to assure the patient there is no spread? That said, this does appear to be a cancer with a high survival rate. I wish her all the best! Cancer is a terrible disease. Doc Savage Dec 31, 11, 11:42 pm She is likely to do well, assuming that there has not been any substantial spread as announced. One of the good aspects of thyroid CA is that radioactive iodine will usually concentrate in any metastatic cells and destroy them without collateral damage. Gaucho100K Jan 3, 12, 6:57 pm The President will undergo the procedure tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Austral Hospital in Buenos Aires. Gaucho100K Jan 4, 12, 2:56 pm The office of the President has announced that the surgery was a complete success. All appears to have gone according to plan. Over the last few years the sudden wearing of a scarf round the neck was usually a good sign. The wearing of sunglasses another. Who knows....maybe I'm being unfair. Call me old-fashioned, but I would much rather that someone in such high office would put most of their Vanity aside. Two examples about how to handle Vanity and the entire external appearance that I would much rather La Presidente follow are German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. A head of state should try to make it into the history books for their work to improve the lifes of the citizens that elected them..... Vanity for them is best reflected in how the history books will portray them, rather than how youthful or attractive them may look on photographs and TV screens...      SoFlyOn Jan 12, 12, 5:19 pm ...
