Has anyone stayed at the DoubleTree Santa Monica?
How are the rooms, amenities, service?. How far from the beach?.

Thanks a lot for any info.

I've seen it from the outside. It's pretty conveniently located although it's near a freeway (the end of the freeway, that is), so make sure you ask at check-in if you can have a room on the quiet side on a higher floor. It's a couple of blocks from one end of 3rd Street Promenade and Santa Monica Pier is a few blocks. There are plenty of good restaurants all along Ocean Avenue. In the other direction, there are some funky, cool places, coffeehouses, good restaurants on Main Street, too. If you have any specific questions, you can email me. Have a great time.

Any word on the DT Santa Monica? How do they treat Gold and Plats?

One of my favorite hotels in the greater LA area. upgrades are hit and miss. Breakfast always provided.

Anyone stay at the Santa Monica Doubletree lately? I'll be in town for a week of work in September. How are they for Gold upgrades etc.?

Thanks!

I stayed there last summer on points as a diamond. At first they gave me a room where someone else was already checked in, but it was quickly resolved. I think all the rooms are the same, 1 King Bed and a pull out sofabed. I thought it was quite nice. I wasn't told of any executive floors or anything, but I did get free breakfast vouchers for the restaurant which was very good.

Stayed there 5 - 10 times. They do have some Suites. I got one once on an overnight stay.

This is my preferred hotel in the area.

I've stayed there several times. The first stay was disastrous -- surly, incompetent staff, round-the-clock renovations, fitful hot water, closed facilities, no apologies -- but I wrote to the GM and they were very apologetic and proactive. Subsequent stays OK.

The place is right where I-10 hits the PCH so it's not a "walking block," but you can hike over to Third Street where the action is in about ten minutes.

I have been put in here by Priceline at around $60 a night, which was a really good deal. My fave place to stay in SM, though, is The Georgian over on Ocean Drive. You won't get it for $60 however. :)

When did it change from being an all suites hotel?

As far as I believe, most if not all rooms are suites in this hotel, some suites are obviously larger than others.

stayed there in March and it was superb. As a gold was given a room with a balcony (ask for one of these, worth it!), large lounge suite in the lounge room and TV, alongwith wireless internet (free- but never worked when i was there they said they were fixing it... yeah right!), bathroom was nice and spacious and there is a mini area with a sink and kitchen table kinda thing, there is a king bed (or queen ish size) in the bedroom with a seperate closed door, large tv in the bedroom too.

was given what they label an upgraded room and also had a hot buffet breakfast (which was excellent!!) complimentary for two each day. they also have an outdoor pool and warm jacuzzi outside, plus a gym with a couple of nice massage chairs.

location isn't the greatest (ie proximity to beach or 3rd st prom), but still good only a short 10 min walk from either. i would say, if it wasn't for the location it would be close to being as good as lowes (but you can't beat the tv in the bathroom in lowes!), it is just over the highway to the airport (fare is about $20 or so). very highly recommended if you get a good rate.

Here are my photos from March 2004 of the room:

I stayed there in November 2003. I'm HH Gold. No executive lounge but I was given 2 coupons good for full breakfast. Free Wireless in rooms. It used to be an EMbassy Suites and I had a seperate "living room" and bedroom. Room was clean and nice, staff were nice and even loaned me a small screwdriver to fix my glasses frames.

The parking garage is OK but its a lot easier to enter the hotel driveway coming north on 4th street than going south.

Stayed there last week. Definitely a dead zone - I might not stay again except for the Hilton points. The walk to 3rd Street/PCH was OK, but a bit warm before sundown - much better on the return. The hotel was fine - rooms were nice and in good condition. Good restaurant for breakfast. Couldn't score an upgrade for either night even as diamond ("all our ocean view rooms are sold out"), so I had a beautiful view of the high school next door, and a front row seat for their all-night graduation party (I slept through it; my co-workers didn't). Only one desk clerk working at 7 pm, with no assistance until 7 people were in line. Same thing in the morning.

Staying at this property next week. Any updates on the facility/treatment of Diamond?

Recommendations on things to do at night?

I stayed there this past spring, there wasn't any construction at the time, the staff was very pleasant. I didn't have any Hilton status at that time. Its a very good location, its a very easy walk to the nightlife in Santa Monica. Santa Monica is very pleasant, good crowd.

Stayed at this property two nights this past week. Notes below.

Hotel is right next to the end of I-10. Easy on/off.

I was given a two-room suite of good size. Not sure if this is because of my Diamond status or no. Decor was tasteful; looks like it was redone within the past few years. No construction in evidence. I was given coupons for breakfast but didn't use them, so can't comment on the quality of the restaurant.

Wireless in my room was terrible. I got an external antenna from the front desk and still couldn't reliably hold a signal.

Hotel is just across the street from the Santa Monica Civic Center. Easy walk up to Colorado Street and thence to the beach.

I'd stay there again.

Bump -- anyone stay at this hotel recently? And any chance a microwave and/or refrigerator are also available in the rooms or as an extra?

Thanks!

Stayed here last month in a king bed suite with an ocean view. It had a little refrigerator in the living area of the suite. I don't think I had a microwave though. Of course, I don't know if the non-suite rooms (yes, contrary to the name of the hotel) have refrigerators.

Thanks! ^ Just called the hotel and they noted a request for the microwave as well.
