Other Car Rental Programs (ie. Alamo, Enterprise) - Anyone ever total an Enterprise vehicle after purchasing CDW? What happened?

Hello all, I found this forum after searching online for some information about CDW insurance.

I frequently rent cars for business use when traveling, and my personal auto insurance doesn't cover rental cars for such use. So, I always purchase the optional CDW insurance. I've rented over 150 times from enterprise before without a problem except for a few small dents or curb rashes. They never said anything about them. unfortunately, a few months ago I got into a bad crash with one of their cars in colorado. I was coming around a curve and a car had broken down in the middle of the road. I was going 60mph, and stepped on the brakes but I knew I was still going to hit them, so I cut the wheel hard to the right and smacked into a telephone pole doing 30mph. It destroyed the car (nissan maxima) and banged me up really good. I am actually glad that I did not hit the other car because it was a Chevy Aveo and it might have really hurt them bad or killed them.

My question is...since this was a few months ago and I haven't heard anything back from them, is this issue settled? What kind of investigation happens when you total a vehicle with them? The police came and wrote a report, and did not cite me for anything even though I was speeding by about 15mph over a second before this happened. It wouldn't have mattered anyway as I would have still plowed into the car that was stopped.

Thanks for the help.

If you filled out any paperwork requested by Alamo upon return (typically an incident report describing the accident and condition of the vehicle) and provided them with a police report number, then no, I would not expect to hear back from them about the accident unless they had further questions for their own internal investigation, especially if it involved a second vehicle. Given that your incident only affected your vehicle, I wouldn't expect to hear from them. Case is probably closed. :)

That's what would happen if someone purchased CDW through me at the independent place I run. One of the selling points is "walk away coverage" as in you hand us the keys after the accident and you walk away. As long as everything was on the up and up (no one was drunk/violating the contract etc.) I've never had to call a customer to discuss an accident.
