Hilton HHonors - Gallery ONE - A Doubletree Guest Suites HotelView Full Version : Gallery ONE - A Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel mach92 Apr 18, 03, 2:02 pm Did a search for any comments cant find any. Thinking of 4 nights overs memorial day weekend. Diamond status using points. Anyone stayed here?? Looks close to the beach and easy to get to. Thanks Tolarian Wind Apr 18, 03, 2:51 pm This hotel used to be a Guest Quarters. It is next door to the Galeria Mall. You must walk over a large drawbridge to get to the beach. The hotel is getting a bit on the tired side in the public areas. I have not seen the guest rooms. There is another DoubleTree further south at about A1A and Las Olas Blvd, right on the strip. This hotel is across the street from the beach. It has limited public space and I have never see the rooms there. If I was planning on a Beach weekend I would take the one at Las Olas. If you want some shopping, etc, then the one you asked about would be fine TW Humaniod Apr 18, 03, 2:51 pm I have stayed at this hotel before. It is an all-suite hotel, although some rooms are nicer than others. I think you want an 01 room, near the curve with a balcony. Very nice view of inter-coastal and you can see the ocean. The hotel has a nice pool area and a little "beach" next to the inter-coastal. While in FLL if you like bargain hunting go to the Swap Shop flea market on Sunrise and Sawgrass Mills outlet center. Great buys at both places, especially on perfume and cologne at the Swap Shop! I hope you enjoy your stay. ejmelton Apr 18, 03, 3:11 pm My wife, son and I stayed at this DoubletTree last month (on points). We're just "Blue" so we got cookies at check-in. As noted above, the property is a little worn (ie,the kitchen cabinets were broken and the microwave didn't work). The eating area in our room was squeezed into a triangular corner, pretty useless. Like many of these "suite" properties, you have to go through the bedroom to get to the bathroom. Dinnerware was minimal, although we did get one pot! You have to park in their garage (for a fee) and it is a walk to the beach. At the same time, it is in a very convenient location, had plenty of room for the three of us and since we only used the kitchen to store soft drinks and warm up leftovers it turned out well. We did not have a balcony (just a sliding door that opened up to the intracoastal), but did have a nice view of the ocean and the boat traffic. We decided that we would be happy coming back here again, for short (two or three day) stays. I would suggest a higher floor (for a less obstructed view) and request a balcony (with southern exposure). Have fun! FFSaver Apr 22, 03, 2:05 pm We stayed at the Fort Lauderdale Doubletree -Galleria for one-night during Easter. Positive points: · Got a corner suite with separate living-room and bedroom. The room even had a small kitchen with complete stove, full-size refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave… but we didn’t even touch any of these appliances… we were on VACATION!!!! · We got 2 bottles of water and 4 pieces of chocolate delivered to room as an appreciation of being HHonors member (maybe only for Gold? I don’t know) Negative points · The hotel is starting to show its age, ie. a lot of the lights in the elevator button were burnt on all 3 elevators. · Walls are made of paper… we could hear EVERYTHING, both from the street and from adjacent rooms. There is a steel-bridge next to hotel and it makes a lot of noise when cars pass over it. The water pipes makes a lot of noise, too. · Breakfast coupons were only given when we “reminded” the rep that we are Gold members. We only got coupons for the continental breakfast buffet, which was pathetic. They will charge more for the hot buffet which has like 3-4 more choices. · It seems like the hotel has had break-ins before because the door to our room had the marks of someone trying to break-in. The hotel has re-enforced all doors with a piece of steel. But just the thoughts! What is the security like then? · Even self-parking will cost you $9 overnight! dweebe Apr 22, 03, 4:38 pm The Galleria mall is being renovated right now. If you or your significant other is wanting to do some shopping there: skip it. isogyre Apr 27, 03, 3:43 pm Originally posted by FFSaver: It seems like the hotel has had break-ins before because the door to our room had the marks of someone trying to break-in. Here is what I posted about this property in January: I stayed there a couple weeks ago (weekend). It is a bit run-down and has a 1970's feel to it. It was overrun with tourists. Excellent location, right on the water, 1/2 mile walk to the beach. There is a water taxi stop on the dock out back. They have an outdoor pool, lounge area, and white sand "beach". Was not offered breakfast coupons or upgraded (I am HH Gold). The bar did not have tonic water or Coke. There was something wrong with the lock on the door to my room - it took several trips back to the front desk (very slow elevators) to re-program the key (none of which seemed to make a difference) and I had to literally kick the door to open it for the rest of my stay. Room service did not bring Tabasco sauce. They charge you to park, whether valet or self-parking. I did get a warm bottle of water and a form letter welcoming me as a HHonors member. If you don't have high expectations and you can get an eastward-facing room, you'll probably be OK. It was quiet and the rooms were comfortable. LemonThrower Apr 27, 03, 7:13 pm The Galleria Mall used to be nice. Las Olas is a good location--nice street with cafes, etc. thebordcu Feb 25, 05, 5:53 pm I was wondering if anyone has any experience at the Doubletree Guest Suites Ft. Lauderdale Hotel Galleria. I am HH Diamond and am planning to stay for 4 nights on points (or at another Hilton property in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area). What are the Diamond amenities at this hotel and chances of being upgraded. Or if anyone else has recommendations on other hotels at or near the ocean in this area please share. AmericanFtWorthTX Feb 26, 05, 12:00 am As a silver, last year I got an upgrade to a waterway view room and you could see the Atlantic. Kids liked the pool (seen on hotel home page). Waterway bus stops at the hotel. There is charge for parking your car. Hotel is next to a waterway road bridge and is two blocks from the beach. There some restaurants and grocery store and starbucks within walking distance. FFSaver Feb 26, 05, 9:56 am I stayed there a couple of years ago as a Gold HH and got breakfast coupons, and a box of chocolate brought to the room. The rooms are quite big, but on the "older" side. Reviewing your link it looks to me like maybe only one floor is dedicated to the condo concept. asandrs Feb 27, 05, 3:36 pm The hotel is going completely condo - they only show one floor on the plans as all floors will be this way. I went to the condo presentation - the revamped rooms are OK and they'll show you an old (i.e. hotel room) just to show you what they started with - don't know if they showed us a bad room just so we could see how much better the condo rooms will be but the hotel room was pretty bad (think motel 6 - 1980's style). The condo rooms are selling fast (as is all property in Ft Laud), the 1 beds start at about 360K, 2 beds around 430K (if I remember correctly), occupancy starting early 2006. Contractors are currently working on the building, floor by floor. As for the hotel, north side - nice views but noisy (road + intracoastal bridge), east - ocean view so gets sunrise, south - looking at downtown Ft Laud so more interesting and gets sun most of the day, west - not much to look at but gets sunset. I'll be around the area this week if you want me to check any thing out. Andy. cjd Feb 28, 05, 1:58 am The hotel is going completely condo Have stayed there a couple of times and found it to be a good location. Few minutes walk to the beach and the water taxi is a useful feature. Even though the rooms were a bit dated, we always had a great view from the balcony overlooking the waterway. Very pleasant in the evening watching the boats and the bridge opening/closing as well as drinking the wine. :D Would I be right in thinking that it will no longer be a Doubletree in the near future? Chris. asandrs Feb 28, 05, 8:32 am thru Hilton - the usual condo / hotel deal, owners can rent out their rooms either independently or thru Hilton. The sales guy said they were trying to think of a new name for the property and Conrad was being considered. Hilton are also building a condo / hotel at Ft Lauderdale beach - the Q club - really expensive, 1 bed 500k+, 2 bed 800k + and owners can only stay there a max of 180 days a year. In the interum....just avoid! This is (was?) an odd hotel. My parents stayed there about a year ago and had a phenominal stay -- great room, great location, great service. My in-laws stayed there about a month later and had the opposite experience -- moldy, disgusting room, and horrible service. The best part? My in-laws booked their room through Hilton and are HHonors Silver. My parents? Not even in HHonors and booked their room through Priceline. Like others, I'll suggest the Doubletree on the oceanfront. Though a touch older than some hotels, it's in good shape, has a great location (especially when the Duke University women's swimming team is staying there to participate in a meet at the swimming hall of fame across the street) and a good staff. marvnmar27 Dec 7, 05, 6:17 pm Hilton no longer has the Doubletree Oceanfront, the hotel is now called the Fort Lauderdale Oceanfront Hotel. They did honor my diamond status for an upgrade and breakfast, not sure if any benefits are still honored... As mentioned above, this property is no longer Hilton affiliated, so you will not receive points/benefits. If I remember corretly, when this property would come up in a search on the doubletree website it listed the date the affliation would end, but would extended benefits for those who booked in advance. As of now the property isn't even accepting reservations. www.ftlauderdaleoceanfront.com sunrisegirl Jul 19, 07, 1:06 pm I have an upcoming stay at the Doubletree Gallery One in Fort Lauderdale and wondered if anyone has stayed there recently. It less than four letter which, which caused the problem. the word "gallery" alone would have worked, sometime you have to use the city a property is in to get the right answer. ;);) This is why our mods changed all threads to reflect the proper name of the hotel in question. Problems like this willl continue in threads that people abbreviate ie. "lax" "lga" "NYC" instead of using "los angeles", LaGuardia or New York. although the "los" & "new" will cause a problem people will still be able to research using the word "angeles" & "york". Hopefully, going forward people will abbreviate less, so that other FTs can have a higher search results and mods will have less merging to do. :) Ok..since you asked nice! I'd like to clarify this thread. Many of the negative posts are 2005 and earlier. Personally I love this place. By far my favorite reasonably priced South FL location. Rooms have always been awesome. Being diamond I always get a great corner view over looking the intercoastal. Very well appointed, flat screen TV etc. Being a boat and water nut I have to get up and go to the window every time I hear a boat horn to signal the draw bridge to open. Diamond breakfast if full buffet or anything off the menu if buffet not operating. Walking distance to mall with great Martini bar, can't think of the name off hand but easy to find right on Sunrise close to hotel end of mall. Parking is charged but for long periods I would call and negotiate. The folks at the front desk are reasonable. My only complaint is the in season price from Jan to May is $375 or more per night. Way out of my travel budget but even Hampton Inns run 225 during those periods. lbbzman Nov 12, 07, 8:04 pm A word of caution to anyone who books the SWA DOUBLE CREDIT rate at the Gallery One Doubletree in Fort Lauderdale. Neither the hotel nor HHonors will in fact post the double credit. Even though this rate is still bookable as of this evening (12 Nov 2007), my attempts to receive double credit have been unfruitful. Other than the double credit issue (hold their feet to the fire), how was your stay? The hotel itself was a pretty nice hotel. It is boutique style, which was pretty cool. From what I could tell by looking at the floor plan, it appears that many of the rooms have different configurations. Mine was on the corner with a view of the intracoastal waterway. The room had a plasma screen TV, with actual HD signals. They do charge for parking. They don't make it plainly clear, but you can self-park ($11/day I think). When you pull up to the hotel, you're given the impression that valet is the only option. As a gold, I received free in-room Internet and free full breakfast. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The hotel is directly across the street from what appears to be a pretty nice shopping mall. Hope this helps.
