After two years, my Diamond status is set to expire April 30th and I will be a Silver/Gold. However, I was wondering, I really need to make a reservation on a sold out property on May 18th. Do you think if I call NOW and request a Diamond Guarentee, they will be able to accomadate the request? If so, who should I call - The Diamond desk, general reservations Or the Hotel directly? I have had good experience with all of them?

I would suggest the Diamond desk.
Be prepared to spend top dollar for the room. They will charge you rack rates for a guaranteed booking.
Good luck! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You have the right to use the Diamond Desk until the end of April. As I see it, it isn't May yet. I think they owe you a room.

Actually it worked. I called the Diamond Desk and they did it without a problem. I believe the standard rate for those days was $179 and the lowest discounted rate was $129. The Diamond Rate I got was $211 - so I will think about it but I've made the reservation for now. It's just that I have an important meeting at that hotel that morning so wanted to avoid driving 30-45 minute in the morning. but will have to see if $211 + tax is worth it.
I have only used the diamond sold out room guarantee once, at the Hilton in Waco TX, just outside of Crawford.
Pres. Bush, Collin Powell and Condi Rice were at the ranch and all the rooms were sold out. I called the hotel direct, no rooms. Called Hilton Diamond thinking if I could get a room it would be at an outrageous rate.
Agent confirmed they were sold out but to let her see what she could do. I told her that I did not want to spend a fortune as I usually stayed there for around $68 on the AAA rate. She checked and came back with a rate of $72. I took it.
On arrival, I noticed many wires coming from the roof down to the guest room windows. The front desk said they could not discuss the "lines".
Was upgraded to a very nice corner executive room. Later that night, I saw a white cord on the floor. I followed it to behind the curtain where I found an unusual phone labeled "White House Telephone, unsecured line".
I guess the Diamond guarantee really does work, and some aid spent the night at the motel six!
Best hotel story I have.

After a Diamond expires, does he really need a room?
