Hilton HHonors - HHonors agent just let me book an award stay during a blackout period

Should I be worried about showing up at the hotel and not having my award cert recognized and asked to pay cash for the room?

The blackout dates are May 3 and 4.

I am going through the same thing that weekend. Just keep calling to confirm and get as many names of people (csr, supervisor res desk, and res manager) at the the Honors Desk and the property directly. Hold them personally accountable if things go bad.

Get first names, last names, and call center locatations so they don't pull, "There's no supervisor named Martika here in Dallas."

Good Luck. Call and confirmation 2-3 times. Write it all down, it is your only insurance.

Sounds like a lot of work, Paul. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

IMHO, one printed confirmation, as long as the information is correct, should be enough to CYA.

My guess: the "blackout" was lifted, but the website didn't get updated, only CRS did.

Just curious - did you know it was a "black-out" period for award stay? If so, then why did you try to book & why would you expect them to make an exception?

If it's a here-today, gone-tomorrow, back the next day kind of blackout (which is how I think I read the post prior to mine), then I can understand concern & need for back-up documentation.

Yes, I knew they were published blackout dates. I also figured that if the hotel's bookings were softer than expected, they would lift those blackout dates without updating the website. I wouldn't know until I called and tried to make a reservation.

Got it. Post after your stay if it worked. Would be good to know for future. Cheers.

ask the hotel to fax you a confirmation w/ someone's name on it..I do this for all my (award) stays so I have proof and I have the name of the person who authorized it...especially for an exception..why run the risk of arguing "But Jenny on the phone said..."
