Any recommendations for properties near ORD for a HH Gold?

Define 'near.' The ORD Hilton is, after all, a 5 minute WALK from the UA chck-in...Dontcount on an executive room, but as they say, locationlocationlocation.

I stayed the DT Rosemont. No executive lounge. I had a corner room, very big and free buffett breakfast for a Gold. Rate of 91 a night booked about 1 hour before I arrived.

As a HH Gold, they put me in an Executive Room at the O'Hare Hilton (and on a $75 www.hilton.com (http://www.hilton.com) rate, at that). The restaurants are great, even facing an active runway the sound was not intrusive, and the inroom internet was very nice.

I need to edit this post. I stayed at the DT ORD. This place is about 5 mins from ORD. Sorry about that.

I disagree if you are including the Gaslamp club(I think) w/the old saloon style atmosphere and the ridiculous looking wait staff. Not good food and WAY overpriced, but then again, what do you expect for hotel food?

I had dinner at Andiamo and really enjoyed it. I was going to try the Gaslight Club, but the hostess was either dead or asleep and I did not want to bother her (especially, if the former). I followed with drinks at the bar.

I had breakfast there (Andiamo - not the bar - that is what Business Class on the 777 is for) the following morning and enjoyed it, as well.

Some hotels do have food that is better than most other dining establishments.

depends what you mean by better.

convienient because you are in the hotel does not make the food better IMO.

The Four Seasons Chicago has terrific food, the Hilton Chicago does not, nor the Marriott, nor the Hyatt etc. etc. On average it is that way in most cities. There are many more higher quality for less money restaurants than good hotel restaurants.

Stayed at O'Hare Hilton last week. Was given executive floor room+breakfast coupons. Mark the "front desk manager" was very helpful and accomodating. Since I wasn't planning on breakfast he suggested I take whatever from minibar and place coupons so as not to be charged. Room was large and OK. Staff was very obliging. Had room service-food was very average.

You hit upon my point. I was refering to places like 4 Seasons and Jean Georges restaurants. Overall I do agree with you. I don't think I have been in a Hilton that has had great food. If there are any I would like to know. Sweet Willie: How would you rate a Hotel that had an Olives as the Hotel restaurant?

To each their own, I guess, for I found the breakfast buffet at the Hilton Chicago to be my second favorite after the Hunt Valley (MD) Mariott. Of course, those cheese blintzes are what did it. I'm a sucker for cheese blintzes. (The Mariott has both blintzes and Eggs Benedict - my other favorite breakfast food). But the Hilton had an incredible spread with lots of goodies all well-prepared.

Now, I could have run down to the Pump Room, but I could not figure out if they still served breakfast. So I was going to do Lou Mitchell's, but I slept in (best night's sleep I have had in years) and wanted to get to the Field Museum right when it opened (I love having a museum "all to myself") so I took a peek at the spread in The Pavillion and was impressed. I also had a late lunch at Kitty O'Sheas and found their appetizer sampler plate to be excellent, if way too much food for one person.
