I lost Gold Status and now back to basic. Do you know if I can ask for an comp status ? I am currently Moments Gold on Le Meridien and Leaders Club on LHW. Not a single stay at Hilton though but likely to do some in June. Any advice ? Thanks !

Some stays or something close to 16 stays? I doin't think they would comp you if you didn't stay with them, it makes no sense for them to do so. If you had 14 stays, and just needed a couple more, that is another story, but they probably realize that you are doing it for the benefits of your couple of stays a year, not using it as an incentive to stay at Hiltons so you can maintain the status.

isn't the objective of a comp. status to say " I 'm willing to bring you my business and i can show you I currently spend lots of $ with your competitors" ? and not only "I'm 2 stauys short to Gold please comp. me" ?

But this only realy applies to new customers, you already had gold status. Esspecially if your last Gold was comped, i.e. you have had the chnace to demonstrate that you will be spending money with them, didnt use it (hence the downgrade).

By the way, how come you didnt get downgraded to at least Silver ?

Comp to Silver = that's a godd question ! I would have assumed that i'd be downgraded to Silver. No my Gold status was not comped as I had over 30 Hilton stays in 2001. Can you confirm that i shoud be Silver ?

For 30 stays you should have been Diamond. It only takes 28.

Not sure about "confirming" but a friend of mine was recently downgraded to Silver from Gold after having zero stays with Hilton in the last year.(He changed jobs and didnt travel anymore.) He was a UK based Gold so maybe they have different criteria from country to country ?

My own Gold status expires end of this month (I switched to Hyatt quite some time ago and only had 3 Hilton stays last year) so I will be curious to see what happens...

France, you are also showing that you chose to stay with someone else rather than hilton in 2002 by showing them your card; you are not a new customer and it isn't a matter of Hilton trying to get another chains loyal member to try them out, you already know the Hilton product. It appears that you are just looking for some upgraded benefits for a couple of June stays. As for the downgrade to basic, I beleive that Hilton downgrades all the way to the level you qualified for as you earn it; in this case no stays would put you at basic. Hilton doesn't use the soft landing policy as far as I can tell. Basic would be the appropriate level according to the way Hilton downgrades.

Thank you all for your advices...I'll just give up for now anyway, I haven't stayed at Hilton because now that I can choose my own hotels (vs. former company policy); now I can get better and decent places to stay at.

So; Bye bye HH, I still have those 250,000 HH to spend I'll give them to my family .

Bangkok Hilton vs. Peninsula or Sukhotai, The Metropole vs. the Langham in London, The Regent vs. the former Hilton WTC in NYC... I think the choices are endless to send my business elsewhere... True, you don't get points when staying with LHW or Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, but at least you have a nice place to stay at. And I guess that's what my travels are about.

I'll miss the double dipping thing , it was great !

Thanks again for your help. Maybe I'll get back to HH someday - when the company policy ask us to downgrade ...

You had Gold, you didn't keep it. There is no incentive for them to give it to you again for free so you get the benefits for the few stays you will make. The problem is that when you had it you spent lots of dollars with the competitors and not with Hilton. If they give you gold, they know you will probably do the same thing, have a few stays and then go someplace else you like more.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but you have proved to them you have no interest in bringing them enough business to retain your status, so they probably won't just give it to you.

Thanks Cordelli, but in case you hadn't noticed, I got the point from the others already ;-) thanks anyway.
You were right, I had absolutely no real reason to ask for a comp. upgrade, and there are absolutely good reasons that I was away from Hilton from the moment I was able to choose something else.
Thanks all for advices !
