San Francisco - SFO: Terminal 3 (UA) to Terminal 1 (US) - connection

I am transiting SFO on:

UA flight from HNL landing at 5:08am
to
US flight to PHX at 6:05am

So it appears I have to go from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1. What is the fastest way to do this? Do I have to re-clear security in Terminal 1?

sky train is the move.

Yes, you will have to re-clear security in Terminal 1. Take AirTrain two stops to T1. The AirTrain station is one level above departures/check in. That should be enough time to connect if your HNL flight is not delayed.

You can visit the SFO website for more info and maps.

This is also walkable if you don't want to take the SkyTrain. About a 10 minute walk, max.

In this case, overall, it is faster, and better for you. And you can walk to the left, or walk to the right - the airport is pretty much a loop.

Oh I forgot about this too. You can cut right across the parking lot in the middle if you feel so inclined. Easiest way would be to go one level above the departures and head toward the AirTrain station and then just take the parking lot elevators to the top level and walk straight across the T1 side.

I know some folks said just walk, but I'd really recommend AirTrain since you're shorter on time.

I find walking to be faster than AirTrain, but I also walk at a brisk pace :)

Thanks for all the quick replies. That HNL-SFO flight has a very good on-time record according to KVS, so I should be OK. And even if I walk, I have to re-clear security in T1, right?

Yes you will.

The red-eyes eastbound from HNL, if your winds are good, get in early. Further, even with inclement weather, they are (1) given priority, as they've been in the air for hours, and (2) arrive prior to the arrival delay backups.
