Hilton HHonors - 2500 Points for Hilton survey

View Full Version : 2500 Points for Hilton survey

Just popped into my in-box - said it would take a few minutes and is already up to 40minutes at half-way!! I'd wait until the first takers have died down, tho it might always be excruciatingly slow.
It is from Forrester on behalf of Hilton, full of dumb questions and weak alternatives but 2500 points is 2500 points. I think the link is personalized since I did not have to log in. Check your in-box.
Cheers,

The Cap'n

90 minutes - at last... it's done. You have to put your e-mail in at the end - it needs to match an e-mail that it was originally sent to, unfortunately.

Sorry for all the mails, I was bored in between questions!!

Cheers,
The Cap'n

So I'm guessing this is a Diamond thing ... no survey for us lowly golds.

Westcoaster
Feb 28, 03, 1:13 pm
I got the survey as a Diamond also. But after about 10 minutes I got an error message and had to bail out. Very very slow, as stated before. I hope HH didn't pay these people very much for doing this survey. Seemed like an unprofessional setup; on some of the questions, none of the answers were appropriate.

TravelWeary

I got this survey as a "lowly gold." It didn't take me that long to run through it--maybe 20 minutes on cable modem. I was happy to participate as I like booking online and that seemed to be the thrust of the survey plus the 2,500 points aren't bad either!

I even went to my profile just now to see if there were any opt-out or opt-in options. Nothing specific about special offers, surveys, etc., and only option is to get e-statements and newsletter. I have them both.

Who knows.

Yes, but unlike the great 5000 point survey we had a month ago, no one is posting the link for this one. Ya got it, great. Link?

TravelWeary
Feb 28, 03, 8:03 pm
As someone said earlier, this is obviously targeted. When you click on the e-mail link it goes to the survey. At the end of the survey they ask you to confirm the e-mail address where you received the message. At no point do they request your HHonors number. To those who have e-mailed me and asked for it, I'm sorry, but I do not believe sharing this link would be in anyone's best interest.

FC_Dave, you da man!
Just spent 12 minutes doing the survey at DSL speed and was thanked for taking the survey in the end, after entering my email address.

The questions asked were inline with the heavey business and liesure travelers. I hope to get the points, but feel my answers may contribute regardless. As a 60+ nights per year Hilton Guy, they should give me the points any way.

Note: This will take you 30 minutes If you do not have high speed internet, can't speed read, are mitculous, and don't recognize the questions are the same for the liesure and the business format.

Thanks for the link. I did the survey (had nothing to do). Long and tedious from Forrestor research. Since I wasn't targetted, there was no place to enter ones HHonors number, so no one gets the points.

I say Forrestor Research is a rotten egg.

Thank you for taking this survey. To receive your 2,500 bonus points, please enter your email address below. (Use the email address that this survey invitation was sent to.)

Hopefully it will work with the e-mail on my HHonors profile. We'll see.

Did anyone else lift their eyebrows at this one: Which of the following, if any, would convince you to book leisure travel more often directly with the hotel, either through its Web site or through its 800-number reservation line? ...

[] If I didn't receive any frequent guest reward program benefits unless I booked through the hotel's own Web site or 800 number reservation line.

I let them know, with a comment in the [] OTHER box, that this would not go over well, and I encourage everyone else to do the same (unless you disagree, of course http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif). HH has floated this idea before (I recall a post about it), and I think it would be a horrible move.

Other comments:+ I was frustrated that they didn't ask us about booking award stays online. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

+ They listed all the sites (Hilton.com, DT.com, ES.com, HI.com, etc.) except the truly most useful one! www.HiltonWorldwide.com (http://www.HiltonWorldwide.com), the only Hilton run site where you can actually search all the Hilton brands (except Scandic).

So many companies seem to pay through the nose for incompetence when it comes to these surveys, studies, and focus groups. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsdown.gif

I believe I've seen all property searches available on some of the branded sites as well. This is usually available after you've done the single property search, and don't see a property you like. The ES and Hampton Inn sites come to mind.

Doesn't everyone book here - www.hiltonhhonors.com (http://www.hiltonhhonors.com)? Enter your password (username's there if you've got the cookie), then click on "view my travel planner." Don't have to log in separately, & check your point postings at the same time. Your only choice on this site is to "search all brands," so if you wanna split your search by ES/HI etc, don't try it.

First off, market research is not telemarketing. Secondly, what do you mean by a horrible, insane, waste of money?
Market research does nothing but try to benefit consumers like you and I.

And don't forget the very valuable information this will supply regarding the "FT Multiplier".

For example:
We sent 1000 targetted e-mail and we got 10,000 completed surveys suggesting that the FT Multiplier is 10 (Numbers are for illustration only).

Coopercinci - I smell a fellow market researcher. Glad you said something to clear up what market research is all about - helping companies better meet customer needs.

My company works extensively with Forrester Research, so I would also add that Forrester is a highly regarded research firm (mostly in the technology industry, but some travel and other industries as well) that does not do telemarketing of any kind. In fact, except for certain web surveys (like the HHonors one), Forrester typically does not field its own research - it is outsourced to firms that specialize in phone/mail surveys, data tabulation, etc.

pinniped
Mar 10, 03, 7:22 am
I see. Forrester doesn't do telemarketing. They use hired guns for that. Well, that makes it all better.

I'm pretty burnt out on sleazy "research" firms that take my data and use it without holding up their end of the bargain. (I don't know about this specific offer - I'm mainly peeved with the slimeballs that run surveys for AA.)

PaulGQ
Mar 10, 03, 11:10 am
I say telemarketing.

And it does the industry so much good when no one reads the questions and just answers A A A A A A A A through out the entire questionaire to get through it it quickly for the points.

Real accurate results really helping the industry. Just more waste that we the consumer has to pay for through higher rates.

coopercinci
Mar 10, 03, 11:29 am
Market research is not telemarketing. Telemarketing is when you try to sell someone something over the telephone. In market research, you will never, ever be asked to purchase anything. It just wants consumers' opinions. That's it. It's there only for your benefit and typically there's an incentive for even participating in surveys - for instance, this thread here where you receive 2,500 points.

If you don't like market research, you don't have to participate, but don't try to compare it to telemarketing, because it isn't.

And, maybe YOU aren't reading the questions and answering the questions, but most people are. It sounds like you're part of the problem. I can't believe you're complaining when you admit that you're not even upholding your end of the bargain.

PaulGQ
Mar 11, 03, 9:53 pm
Telemarketing is not just sales, it is marketing. And surveys are most definetly a form marketing. Instead of Forrester selling timeshares for cash or offering to refinance my house at a better rate, these people are selling 2500 points for my time and insight.

And your right, it isn't telemarkeing, it's compumarketing.

Further, if you are foolish enough to think most people are reading the questions in full and coming up with thoughtful accurate answers on this questionaire, you should get out of the marketing business.

Paul GQ: Must be comforting to really believe you are an expert on something you so obviously know nothing about. Sorry about trying to clarify or educate you on this - clearly a lost cause.

Back on topic - I still haven't gotten my 2,500 points for the survey and suspect that they aren't on their way. It was a long shot sneaking into the survey link via FT, but thought I'd give it a try! Hopefully, Hilton will use all the free responses they got to their survey anyway!

Received the same e-mail, but not sure if this is going to be that easy. After all, the only thing the research company has is our e-mail address, if you, just like me, did the survey from a link. This looks like an automated response, so I'm not sure if the company has a way of matching our e-mail address with our HH account. The folks that were targeted, it would seem to me, the company would have their account number with the e-mail address. So once they actually start giving out the points, they may find that many of us were not the targeted members. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not too optomistic just yet.

I'm mildly optimistic about this one. A possible scenario all along:

Forrester was given a list of e-mail addresses by Hilton. They got back a certain number of responses. I believe it is reasonable to hope that Forrester sends back to Hilton a list of the e-mail addresses provided at the end of the survey. Hilton runs that list against members on file to award the points. As long as the actual response rate was not abnormally high (recall that the survey was mighty tedious), do they really care about a few non-targeted members as long as the stuation doesn't smack of an outright "give-away"?

If the guidelines were that strict on targeting, Forrester could have very easily bounced folks who responded, but whose addresses did not match the Hilton list.

Dear Hilton HHonors member, We are unfortunately unable to confirm a match between the email address you entered on the survey you recently took and what we have on file. FC_Dave: Let us know if and when you get your points. I, for one, am willing to donate some of my bonus to you - if that is at all possible. Hopefully, others will do the same. It's only fair.

Targeted, no points. It looks like those that weren't targeted are having better luck getting the points posted.

That's very generous of you - however impossible, I just thought it was ironic . . . since the initial posters were unwilling to share

In the large scheme of things 2K just won't make a difference - I certainly won't spend any time on the phone pursuing it, might draft an email if they don't post by the end of April

I am glad that so many of you have received your points - With so much crap coming into our email inboxes it's easy to discard a truly valuable offer.

I personally have a problem with "targeted offers" - -

HILTON can easily discard the results from those customers they didn't want to "target" but shouldn't exclude them from the nominal benifit they are offering for the information.

Keep posting the offeres targeted or not - It is more efficient to read the posting topics than to search the website or read all of the email

Good Luck
