Hilton HHonors - A week @ the Park Lane Hilton and a week at ??

Help. I really need some advise from some of you "world" travelers out there.

We are using a GLONP for a week at the Park Lane Hilton and then a GLON for somewhere else nearby. We don't know the area--this is an understatement.

Where is there a Hilton property, not a Premium (preferably a Classic if I'm going to use 100K!), that we could get to relatively easy from London (i.e., train, bus, tube)?

We are planning to fly in and out of LHR to get the best rate, so we would have to come back into the city (LHR) and catch an 11:00 flight. Although we may just come back a day early from whereever we are and stay one night at the Paddington just for the whole airport thing next door. We do not plan on getting a car in London but we can get a car somewhere else.

We WERE going to spend a week in Bath. However, I understand that 1) the Hilton Bath City is less than desireable (not willing so spend #100k points) and 2) a week is WAY too long for Bath.

So...what are some other locations that are accesible from London (Park Lane)...that is worthy of 100k points and that a week is not too long to stay there?

I suspect I'm really targeting a few select posters out there to have this type of information....but I see some pretty well-travelled folks on this BB and if I can't find them here, then they don't exist!

This will be our first trip to London and I can't wait. (Aug 30/Sep 12).

I see tons of Hilton properties in GB on the website but I have NO CLUE if I can get "there" from London! I think I missed a history lesson or two. Hubby is Canadian and I think he missed a few himself!

Thanks!!!!!

Dawn

You may want to do a search on UK Hiltons in this forum & read up on them. There have actually been a few posted on various UK Hiltons in the last week or so (and the Bath one actually got a good review, although the point about being there for a week is a valid one). Once you've reviewed them, you might want to repost w/ more specific properties in mind. You might also want to do a post in the London (FT Travel) forum re: places outside of London & see what type of response you get.

You could go to Edinburgh (Scotland)???

Are you decided you must stay in England/Great Britian? I ask because with a week you could:

1. easyjet or Ryannair (discount carriers similar to Southwest) could take you roundtrip out of London to dozens of exciting places in Europe for very little airfare.

2. Or, via the Chunnel, you could be in Brussels, Amsterdam, or Paris after a couple of hours on the train.

Thanks. I guess I [must have] underestimated just how many Hilton Properties there are that you can get to via London that there is enough to do to stay a week and are Classic properties! Wow...good thing we have a few months before we leave!

We can take the chunnel to Paris? I would LOVE to go to Paris!!! I wonder if there is such a thing as a Classic Hilton in Paris! I doubt it, but I will look.

Thank you!!!! We could come back one day early on the chunnel, stay at the Paddington and then back home to California with no worries!

Taking the EuroStar (through the chunnel) to Paris costs about $700 for three of us in first class last summer on a promotion, you might want to look for a sale since you have some time.

There was a popular thread about 3 months ago with someone asking whether the Paris or Rome airport Hilton is better for his 70 year old father on a GLON. Do a search and it should answer many potential questions.

The Rome Hilton is a classic property, GLON for 6 nights, and treats HH Golds to the executive floor. Perhaps you can find a EasyJet or RyanAir flight to get you there. Keep in mind that these discount airlines fly into secondary airports that could be difficult to get to the city.

Also, there are three Hiltons in Vienna, at least one of which is a Classic.

Good luck.

You can go fly into Dublin easily from London and stay at the Dublin Conrad, which is a Classic hotel.

You might not want to spend 6 nights in Dublin so you could skip the GLON and spend the extra points and stay a few nights at the Mount Juliet Conrad, although its a premium.

Right now, easyjet is showing r/t flights from London to Paris (depart early Sep., return 5 days later) for about $100.

You will have had enough of London after 1 week.

lots of othe UK Hiltons are moderate. Nowhere near as good as Park Lane or Conrad.

Suggest Edinburgh Caledonian below castle and at end of Princes Street shops
Travel - plane 1 hour train 5 hours

or Dublin Conrad - City Centre - although you may need GLONP there

Paris is 3 hours by Eurostar train
GLONP also however

Enjoy your trip

We're doing a week in Paris prior to our Park Lane stay. We thought that the chunnel would be a fun way to travel. I checked out many website prices for the chunnel (Eurostar)and Fodors.com has a lot of good info on how to purchase tickets. For going from Paris to London I found the best rates through SNCF (www.sncf.com.) However, I understand that if you're going London to Paris you many want to try Eurostar.com
