Hey all,
I have a potential client that wants me to be an expert in Amadeus.
So what's the low down? Is it just like expedia?
I at least need to know why I'm not an expert. I mean, you don't generally receive miles, right? It's just a typical third party. right?
Opinions?
I woulda put this in miles & points, but it's neither.

No, my understanding is that Amadeus is a back-end solution for airlines and professional travel agents. It is not a simple online booking engine.
I would guess this question belongs in Online travel booking agencies (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/online-travel-booking-bidding-agencies-204/) but I bet you would get a good response in the Mileage Run Discussion forum.

No, my understanding is that Amadeus is a back-end solution for airlines and professional travel agents. It is not a simple online booking engine.aMaDEUS is a global, multi-faceted company that does include back-end automation for airlines, and which also is a Global Distribution System (reservations system used by travel agencies and other corporate travel industry entities).
aMaDEUS was founded in the 1980s by IB, AF and LH. In addition to their airline and back-end products, they developed the leading non-U.S. GDS, then entered the U.S. market by purchasing (in stages) the System One GDS from its then-owners Continental Airlines and EDS (System One was the successor to the original Eastern-Airlines owned SODA (System One Direct Access) travel agency reservation system). The HQ is in Madrid, with development and technical/operations offices in Sophia Antipolis, France (near Cannes/Nice) and Erding, Germany (near Munich)
If you are a software developer, my guess is that "learning aMaDEUS" may mean learning the GDS itself, programming interfaces (APIs), or both.
Although I've had no contact with aMaDEUS in over a dozen years, I feel that it is an innovative company and that it treats its employees reasonably well. Best of luck in getting the job if it meets your needs.
Disclosure (obvious, probably :D ): I am an aMaDEUS alumnus, although I worked for neither the GDS or back-end divisions.
