In answer to a comp status upgrade request (I am Fairmont Plat) I received this from HiltonHonors Glasgow :-
"I must admit I don't know who has informed you of that because unfortunately we do not upgrade our members based on their status with other loyalty programmes."
Can anyone suggest what I should do next ?

Always carry a copy of your Hilton guide indicating your entitlement. Also, give them a copy of the Hilton Help Desk phone number for them to call.
Goto the web site, print it out and see what they have to say about that.

Sounds like they got confused and thought you expected room upgrades based on your Fairmont status. Try phoning and explaining that you want a status match with HHonors not benefits based on your Fairmont membership.

You could try one of the following:
[1] Earn status.
[2] Find one of the promo codes in this forum, which instantly upgrades your status.
[3] Select a different chain to patronize (maybe they'll comp your status).

My request was VERY clear and this is the upshot of a series of email exchanges. Have you actually had a comp status upgrade from Hilton UK ?

FF99,
In the past few months there have been a number of threads about getting instant gold on this board. I kept my gold after staying 4 nights in 3 months. (I did them in a week). I used the UK amex code for this but don't remember it.
Are you already an HH member?

I too did the AMEX 4 nights thing about two years ago. I also told all of my colleagues about it (who did not have AMEX cards) and they too did it and got HH Gold.
When I called the Glasgow Call Centre, I couldn't recall the code but they said no probs and put it in for me themselves.
Anyone get an u/g to Diamond?

CLARIFICATION TIME OUT!
Do I understand correctly that you (Frequentflyer99) contacted Hilton and asked them to upgrade you because you are a Fairmont Plat?
If so, Hilton's response would be a correct one, although not as PC as I would have put it. IMO you need to contact Hilton as Nigel suggested and actually get comped status, not have Hilton "extend" it to you for an upcoming stay.

I agree with Sweet Willie, beergut, etc here. "Comp Status Upgrade" in the way the FF99 uses it is misleading (and was misinterpreted). You should call back and ask for a "status match," saying that you are abc status w/ Fairmont, but you want to switch your loyalty to Hilton. So, ask if HH would match your Fairmont status to Silver (or Gold/Diamond).

Maybe this explains why this ( unearned) gold gets treated well in U.K. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
