Travel Photography - Mini-DV camera and recording on flight - a few Qs

Last year my family went to Florida - and on the way back I attempted to film takeoff. I used a small video camera that was, honestly, pretty bad. In the following year, I came into possession of a SONY DCR-PC7 video camera [uses mini-dv tapes :D].

Now.

Having never used this type of camera on an aircraft, never having traveled with one before - using it mostly for trainspotting videos - I have a couple of questions:

- Any issues with being able to bring the camera, batteries, charger, and DV tapes through security?
- Any issue on the plane with being able to keep it, well, out of sight when necessary? It is bigger than the one I used before, but is still kinda small-ish and compact, but I am unsure.
- How well would the microphone on this camera, or other variants [later models, etc] handle the volume of engine thrust? The last cam I used suffered HORRIBLY in the area of sound [as well as the video quality or lack thereof].

1) No.
2) If the FAs tell you to put it away, you should. After all, use of electronic equipment while below 10,000 feet is prohibited. ;)
3) The sound will be bad. I haven't come up with a good solution to that other than killing the volume on the audio when compiling the videos.

If you want to see some of what I've put together for takeoff/landing videos they're here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC83B474AAF06404C&feature=viewall.

Even where I'm sitting - row 10 on a jetBlue E190, right over / in front of the wing, where the engines are mounted?

And if I was a few rows ahead, would it be any better?
