Hilton HHonors - Do you admit to having children?

I occassionally travel with one of my children. I'm never sure whether to put the child on the reservation or not. Does it affect the upgrade. My kids have travelled with me all their lives and know how to conduct themselves in a business environment (hotel lounge or plane) - the ONLY reason I'd even let them come along. But, I'm never sure the hotel clerks know them like I do (for very good reason, as we all are aware). So I'm hesitant to list them on the reservation - thoughts?

At some hotels they seem to want to charge extra for additional people in the room so I always just book for one. I've never had a problem -- or a rate change.

I always list my child on the reservation and it seems to help us out getting an upgrade. The clerks seem to understand why I ask for a pull out couch or room enough for a roll-away bed. I'm always pleased when they say, "I think that we have a suite (or a large room)that you'd be more comfortable in." So I'd recommend putting the child on your reservation.

Hilton (and most other hotels) don't charge extra for children.

Including a number other than zero in the children field will exclude you from making an online reservation in most, if not all but one, of the Hiltons in the UK - this despite the fact that there are several that can accommodate children (two double beds, etc.). In my several searches only the London Metropole works - others will show no availability until you zero the number of children.

I have always mentioned if my kids were with us. As far as Hilton, it gives us the extra coupons for breakfast. From a more serious standpoint, if there was a fire in our wing I would want them to realize there were 3 or 4 in the room, not just two. I have never been charged more for the kids. Now that they are older, we tend to take two rooms.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm not really concerned about being charged for the extra person but am wondering if it affects an upgrade to the executive floor. Do you think clerks would intentionally NOT put you up there if they knew you had children? (due to the complaints they often get about children up there)

We almost always get executive floor accommodations with our child. I think that being a Diamond brings on the VIP treatment (or our kid is really cute)!
As for the UK booking yyzflyer is right, you can't book the hotel w/ a child listed. However, we're staying at the Hilton Park Lane on a GLONP and we faxed a request for a roll-away or a pull out couch and they said they would accommodate us. (We'll let you know if this really worked in June.)

I agree with you that at some hotels it does appear to cause them to not give you access to the lounges. The Hilton Tokyo is one that comes to mind. I didn't really care there because I enjoy getting the buffet in the lobby area free instead.
Most other hotels, however, have still given me lounge access with my son along.
