I am planning a visit to Foshan, Guangdong Province, and was wondering if someone can tell me where I can find a center/mall for doors? I am mainly looking for office doors and furniture.

Also, can someone identify what mall/center the following pic was taken at? http://community.travelchinaguide.com/photo/1105/110509070247913.jpg

TIA!

Moondog, thanks for the link. I can search too, and have an alibaba account and reached out to different sellers. However, that doesn't tell me where to go once I arrive to Foshan.

I'm guessing there is some clustering going on down there (i.e. many furniture places are located in the same area). Even if not, if you call some of those guys and tell them you are a potential customer, they will surely come to you.

The city isn't that big, if they won't come to pick you up at your hotel
they probably don't need any orders.

The problem with reaching out to these guys specifically is that they won't take you to the centers. They will take you to their HQ which would be in some office building or the factory. I want to go to the centers because then I'm not wasting my time with only one manufacturer and can cross-shop and eliminate faster. Do you know of a center similar to this one that would be more direct for doors rather than furniture?

There are many other centers, but none specializing in office doors.
Chances are the factories are in west China as labor costs are
lower than Guangdong province. Just have to search around and
you will find a good deal. If you are looking to purchase very large
volume, search Home Depot sea freight manifests and find their suppliers.:D

Is this your first time playing the trading game? If so, you might want to look into hiring someone on the ground to assist you (a former --or even current-- Home Depot purchasing agent would be optimal; search on Linkedin). In addition to negotiating for the best prices, they can help on the QA front, which is arguably more important. This advice is based on the assumption that you're not simply placing a one off order that you can inspect at the port with your own eyes.

ie: Chinese drywall in Florida.

At least with doors they could take them off the hinges and throw them in a toxic waste dump.

As for the OP, maybe hold off your visit until March 2012 and get there for the next big related exhibition: http://www.interzum-guangzhou.com/

Larger Chinese furniture manufacturers typically use several subcontractors, maybe 5-7 smaller companies. As for doors, several manufacturers from other interior sectors have moved into those and windows to broaden their product sortiment. Quality should be better than often in furniture where it's still mostly miserable.
