Being deliberately cryptic here... sometimes because of fare class not allowed to pre-select seat... but I love the one world homeland of the great hockey players Jari Kurri and Teemu Selänne and was pleased with the results, might work in other situations as well. ;)

Thanks for the (cryptic) information! I managed to pre-select some of my seats, which I couldn't do on OneWorld websites south of the equator or west of Greenwich :)!

Weird! I don't think it works anymore, anyone else having the same issue?

I can go to the site put my info in but the seats are no longer hyperlink clickable for LAN flights.

Help!

Not working for me either. I seriously dislike that you can't preselect because of fare even if the passenger is elite. I didn't notice that this wasn't a benefit - it should be a no-brainer.

just checked, the Finn site has changed. Now has a "special seat" button that does nothing yet. I think it is to do with LAN playing with paid preferential seating (the Chile site has this, the Columbia site talks about it, the Peru site is clearly changing seat selection options, and didn,t someone post about a $ symbol). So given LAN is in process of change for seat selection not surprising the Finn site hasn't keep up. Might be a wait and see situation.

LAN Colombia is charging $11.600 for a preferential seat
When I did online check in they were all wide open, I don't know if as a Pinochet Silverware they would let me have one at the check in desk

what fare classes don't allow seat selection?

Actually... because of the headaches trying to select seats on lan.com, I recently resorted to calling Lan  (lan.com option) and the sweetie successfully booked me into seats in T (reward), Economy S, Economy 0 and even Economy X... and X is clearly a fare class where pre-selection of seats is not allowed. So it seems it is wide open for them to do, not us.

Sos vos Comodoro. I wouldn't expect such treatment for a plebeian flyer.

Maybe... and I certainly wish it were so. But the website (I was logged in so my status would be known) wouldn't allow it (because fare class ineligible). And she did not appear to know my status, she was quite the rookie. She did not even know if she could select a seat for me and each time it was “I'll try” and when successful it seemed a bit of a surprise to her “It worked!”. She did not seem to be over-riding the system, and as we all know, LAN agents do not often over-ride anything. As well, the front 3 rows were seat-blocked for her (“someone is in those seats”) so Comodoro status didn't mean anything there.

Actually, preferred seat pre-selection is not a benefit listed for Comodoros, they too have to wait til 48 hours before:

Like Andrea, my wish is that LAN would fix their seat selection policy and web site and allow FF to pre-select seats, like other airlines can (and maybe we will see it now that they are moving towards charging for preferred seats).

The surprise was that seat selection was even possible for her on a domestic X fare, clearly not allowed, and I somehow doubt status over-rides fare restrictions.

So is there still trouble? I have two separate business awards booked via AA. The outbound legs are both include 4M MIA-EZE flight and the AA agent was able to pick row 2 with no trouble.

The return is EZE-SCL-JFK but AA wasn't able to select a row. The LAN site won't let me select a seat - every time it simply returns the message stating the seat (any seat) was recently reserved by another pax. Obviously not true.

I'm guessing I'm stuck calling LAN?

Arizonaguy, did you try hitting the refresh button during the spinning wheel? Has been known to work.

Interesting trick, hadn't heard of that. Doesn't seem to be helping unless there's specific timing to hitting refresh.
