Florida - Miami in March

I've never been to Miami, so I was excited when my company announced that we're having a big corporate event there this year in March. The event is March 25-27 and I was hoping to spend time in town either before or after. Ordinarily, I'd fly in a few days earlier and spend the weekend before the event. However, I heard that the Winter Music Conference is happening during those days and that it overruns the town. Is this true? Will it have an impact on hotel prices and availability? Should I, instead, consider staying the days after my corporate event?

Any advice greatly recommended!

One thing is afterwards you are butting up against the Easter Holiday. I'd say try Priceline or Hotwire before or after and see what rates you get. Often if you are willing to stay at an airport hotel the savings more than offsets the cost of a rental car (also use Priceline or Hotwire) to make the short drive to South Beach (and cheaper than using a cab).

The most inexpensive garage in South Beach is on 13th st between Collins and Ocean (1 block from the beach) but you need to get there by 10:30 or 11AM at the latest at the garage tends to fill up fast.
