Many flights cancelled.

Situation

Due to bad weather conditions (hurricane) in Europe flight traffic is experiencing disruptions. Several short haul flights had to be cancelled. Further delays and cancellations are likely.

Please note the latest information on our flights in the online flight schedule. Cancelled flights are shown as "cancelled". If your flight is cancelled, refer to the information given under rebooking, refund or alternative travel by train and do not proceed to the airport.

More than a few were cancelled.
Around 70 flights were cancelled until the early afternoon, and more during the evening, so I would expect around 100 European flights were cancelled.

You can get an overview on the ZRH Airport homepage: here (http://www.zurich-airport.com/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-48)

What surprised me was that many flights were cancelled while the weather on the ground seemed almost calm and wind gusts only came to around 30km/h, but the trouble was apparently very strong winds a few hundred meters above ground.

Surface winds have picked up since around 4 PM with peaks up to around 60 to 70km/h and that is still the situation now at 7PM.
There are still flights cancelled, but I see aircraft landing all the time now.

Update 10PM
That was it for the storm in ZRH.
Wind is down to a breeze at around 20km/h and gusts around 30km/h.
Now it's getting colder (just above 2 degrees C), and only a few raindrops.
Forecast for tomorrow (Sat) is for some morning snowshowers.

ZRH Airport page shows a few cancelled arrivals for tomorrow morning: link
(http://www.zurich-airport.com/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-63/)
But the Swiss online timetable (http://booking.swiss.com/web/tt.htm) has more cancellations and is currently NOT in sync with the ZRH-Airport homepage.
