JAL Mileage Bank - JAL AAdvantage Award Availability

Hi,

Newbie here, so I apologize if my question has been answered before. I'm a long time lurker and have used the search function.

I'm planning LAX-NRT on the 4th of April and I was looking at the award availability for JAL using AA miles (none available). Now, I understand that Z and J seats are usually released closer to the travel date. However, in cases like this (when not even Y is available), is it possible that Z and J might not even get released at all? At the very least, can Y even show up randomly?

I booked SYD-NRT in J on JAL in October 2011 for a September flight next year using AA miles. I found availability on Awardnexus.

Anyone know why SFO-HND in J is not available at all for redemption after Feb 28 2012 using AA/BA miles? There's good availability up to Feb 28 2012, but after that it's completely dry.

They are finishing a promotion on 2/29 for J with 50K AA miles RT. I was able to snag 3 TIX for family in time at 150K total. But normal redemption at 50K OW should be available IMO. did you call AAdvantage desk?

Just booked 3 seats in business for X-mas travel. NRT-HNL. There was zero availability until 3 days before departure, but at -3 days every flight had 3-4 seats available in both business and economy.

When does JAL open award inventory to AA in F on the NRT- JFK route or the JFK-NRT flights?

It is amazing to me how much availability there has been on this half-price miles award between SFO and HND! I was able to secure an award (outbound Jan 20, return Jan 29) for another person and there were plenty of other seats available as I was trying to coordinate his availability and the seats'.

(A bit OT, but he was on his way to celebrate his 86th birthday and visit with is estranged brother near Kyoto after nearly 60 years of not seeing him; he was born in the US, went to Japan at age 2 when his father was killed in an accident, went to Manchuria at 13 as a kind of pseudo-IJA Boy Scout and was drafted into the Japanese Imperial Army; taken captive by the Soviets and served in a Siberian coal mine, nearly dying; returned to the USA, was drafted into the US Army and went to Korea - last saw his brother on Rest and Recreation in Japan! Funds were raised to send him, but he'd have gone Coach if not for my learning here about this great offer.)

KKR - did you get your tickets yet? I was able to get a seat in F ORD-NRT in early Jan for an early Feb and in the past have generally had good success between DFW-NRT with awards, especially in Y. This time I did subscribr to KVS and once I figured out how to read the data (grin) it was a very big help. Hope it works out for you.

Wow, good on you! I saw their meeting in some sort of news documentary recently, but it's kind of sad that that may be the last time they'd see each other.
