Hong Kong and Macau - Refund of HKG departure tax if coming from Macau?

I am departing from HKG on OZ and will be arriving at HKG via the Turbojet from Macau. I have heard that I am eligible to get a refund of the HKG departure taxes as it is considered a connection. Does anyone know where you go to receive such refund once you get off the ferry?

Yes, you will get the departure tax refunded.

I'm a little fuzzy on the details but I think you get it after passing through the security checkpoint.

I can say that it is clearly signposted though, and you are almost forced to walk past their desk so I'm quite sure you won't miss it.

The usual process is:

-- Take ferry from Macau to HKIA's Sky Pier

-- Reclaim your baggage at the Sky Pier

-- Take your baggage to your airline's check in desk at the Sky Pier

-- Check in for your onward flight. The agent should give you a tax refund voucher.

-- Go through security.

-- Stop at the tax refund desk. It's maybe 10 meters after exiting security.

If "upstream check in" is allowed for your airline and itinerary, then a couple of the steps above happen at the initial ferry port, vs HKIA's Sky Pier. However the tax refund desk is still in the same place.

How much is the refund approximately? Is it worth trying to make Macau my last excursion while I'm in HK? Was going to Macau anyway.

If you want to make Macau your final destination but want to stop in HK
Enter HK from airport
Stay in HK
Go to Macau from KL
Return from Macau to HKG and transfer to get the airport tax refunded.

You should plan according to schedule, not for the refund. As posted, the refund is HK$120. But also consider that the ferry to HKG also cost about HK$80 more than the regular ones. Either way, that amount is insignificant, compared to the time potentially saved/wasted, and/or cost difference in hotel rooms in Macau vs Hong Kong.
