Just stayed one night at the spanking new Hilton in Chongqing, China. It was only opened on March 6th and not all the facilities were available yet. However, the room was bright and well designed. They will have broadband internet access (sockets there but not hooked up yet). The staff are also really friendly and are quite openly proud to be working for such a great hotel.

It was a welcome change from the Yangtze Holiday Inn. Last time my baggage was searched upon check-out as I was accused of stealing the bathroom scales! The person in charge of the search party (!) failed to see the humour when I said that I was unlikely to take the scales as they only go up to 100Kg and I weigh coniserably more.....

It has exclusive lounge. It is located on 32nd floor. I have an very happy experience with the hotel. The people are very friendly and helpful to me. I don't like Holiday Inn Yantzee. The service is bad and I smell the paint from another floor due to renovation.

Chongqing is definitely an interesting city; I was there for a whole two hours a couple weeks ago, mostly in the lobby of the Holiday Inn waiting for the Yangtze cruise bus to arrive, but wish I could have stayed longer. One of the people on the cruise had stayed in the Hilton the previous night, she said it was super luxurious (but dunno what she considered luxe).

Any updates on this Hilton in Chongqing? What can I expect of upgrades and lounge access as a Gold Hhnonors member?

Rate: $61 per night, Visa promo pay 2 nights get 3rd night free, final rate = $40.70 per night. Booked regular room, called ahead and was assured upgrade to Exec. room as Diamond. Checked-in at 32nd floor (Exec. floor). Friendly staffs, was offered drinks while waiting for them to input the passport info.

Transportation: $9-10 taxi ride from airport. Not exactly located in downtown area, about 5 mins taxi ride from downtown.

Room: The room is about decent size with view of the Yangtze River, king bed with soft mattress, separate shower/bath tub. 2 bottles of mineral water every day. BBC, CNBC, CNN, ESPN, HBO, Cinemax.

Perks: Complimentary welcome fruit basket, box of chocolate and bottle of red wine. Free local call & HSIA for Exec. room.

Lounge: located at 32nd floor. Breakfast served every morning: bacon, sausage, waffle, french toast, pan cake, egg, cold cuts and variety of pastries & breads. Afternoon tea & nightly reception with beer & cocktail.

Bottom line: nice hotel for both business and leisure travelers.

Sounds great. I'm going there this week. Anything within walking distance to go and see? I usually like to take a stroll around when I'm staying somewhere new.

The hotel itself is not exactly located at downtown area, but about 5-min (about 5-8 RMB, or US$1) taxi ride away from it. Remember only get into the cabs w/meter, and once you get in, make sure the cabbies start the meter. There are many shops & restaurants at downtown area, just be aware that local cuisine is very spicy.

Thanks,

you're right, not much within walking distance but still a great hotel. Very pleased. Club lounge great for a small meeting as well at breakfast time I was joined by colleauges and supplier and they found a meeting room for us FOC without a booking.

The hotel was great. The room was very comfortable, one of best beds I've slept in for a long time, decent size room, broadband internet, good bathroom, minibar, kettle etc. Fruitbowl and chocolates, although I didn't find the wine (probably not a problem as the chinese wine doesn't seem to be up to much, although I did have some pretty good red wine from the Great Wall label, produced by the China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Company!!!).

Fantastic view from high panorama windows. My only complaint really was that it was a little too warm for me and being early march, the air conditioning wasn't on and there was no way to open a window. Even the bathrobe fit me which is most unusual as I'm 6'4" and around 220 Lbs.

I wasn't particularly impressed with Chongqing itself though. Later this week I've been in guangzou and that was altogether a much more pleasant city.

Thanks to the previous posters.

Can anyone compare this to the Marriott? Rooms, location, etc. I'm going to be there only for one long day prior to a cruise.

Cheers

The JW Marriott is located right in the middle of downtown; Hilton is about 5 min taxi ride away from DT. Due to the location difference, The Hilton's occupancy rate is usually lower than Marriott, so if you have status, it might be easier to secure an upgrade from Hilton compare to the Marriott. Last time I stayed at Hilton, I emailed (chongqing@hilton.com) the hotel directly & was able to secure an upgrade to Exec floor prior to my arrival.

Just stayed there again for 4 nights. The hotel is still as good as it was when it opened. Also got an upgrade to the exec floor and got a bowl of fruit (replenished daily), a small box of chocs and the bottle of wine (NOT Chinese! I think it was Italian).

The staff are terrific. Always friendly and helpful.

Chongqing has changed tremendously since I was there 5 years ago, but not enough to want to be posted there!! Regular visits (from the fall on) will be more than sufficient. :)

Hotel is as good as described--great staff and upgrades to Exec Floor with no problems. Good selection of snacks at dinner and more than adequate breakfast in Exec Club lounge.

Internet seems to be included (I had no charge for it) with any Exec Floor upgrade so that is OK--a bit confusing as you have to agree to terms when you sign on to Internet but no price is given.

Had a great room with a great view. Nice litte neighborhood for my daily stroll/tea . . .

Location was OK for me. 377 CNY special rate / night hard to beat. About same price as the Holiday Inn North (where I got a better room/suite but not so good amenities--no Exec Lounge access without paying the extra).

Stayed here three times over the last few weeks and every day was superior. It is one of the best deals I get anywhere these days!
