the Checkin Counter operated by Jet and Kingfisher for domestic flights at bom international terminal is closed. they require you to take all luggage with you on the transfer coach that runs very inefficiently.

Is this a permanent change or just for today only?

that would be my question as well....if its a permanent change then its going to make things very difficult for people transferring....

i am not sure if its permanent change but when i landed at BOM international last month they told me that the checking/transfer desk operated by IT and 9W are no longer available and i had to take all my luggage on coach and checkin once i reached domestic terminal. i missed my domestic connection becaues of that and had to wait 9 more hours at domestic for next flight. also, the transfer service is very inefficient. the coaches are not operating at right frequency.

Agreed. BOM will never be a true international <---> domestic airport until it drastically improves transportation between the international and domestic terminals. Honestly if they just triple the number of buses it would go along way. In the distant future a people-mover/tram (like they have in PIT, MCO, ZRH, EWR, FRA etc.) would be ideal.

Also, the security check when going from domestic --> international is arduous - if they opened a few lanes it would help. Having a 3+ hour connection and still missing your flight is a big possibility (especially if you check luggage) and that's just kinda ridiculous for a real world-class international airport.

stick to DEL - I have done a number of connection DOM-INTL and INTL-DOM there and its far more efficient. Even had a really tight DOM-INTL connection on 9W and made it with great on ground assistance.

I have a flight coming up through (from USA) BOM to HYD, normally I would want avoid BOM like a plague, but lack of Star Alliance carriers at HYD and the fact that BOM was atleast $150 cheaper (I am not sure why it is ?) than going through DEL, I am forced to do this.

I agree that domestic to int'l connection is ardous at BOM, the bus takes atleast 30 minutes and then dumps you in front of the terminal where you have to fight your way through the entrance.

DEL is better, but BLR or MAA are much better since it is only a short walk from domestic to international.

Honestly, connecting at BOM isn't too bad at all, as long as you take an AI middle of the nighter on the BOM-HYD leg...

This is because of the high taxes at DEL.

I agree with you, but the connection you mentioned is helped by the fact that the midnight BOM-HYD flight leaves from T2.

I've actually had pretty good INTL-DOM connections at BOM in the middle of the day. I think that connections at BOM are very hit or miss. In general, it's hard to predict if it will go smoothly or not.

Any update on whether this change is permanent? I'm scheduled to land in BOM in 4 days, at midnight. Connecting to a 2AM Jet Airways flight to BLR (It was originally a 3AM flight, but Jet rescheduled it to 2AM).

If the change is permanent, looks like I won't make this connection (have 2 bags to check, and apparently pony up excess baggage fees)... Thoughts?

check in 2 bags usually not a problem as far as you show them your international boarding pass. in all these year i have never had to pay for excess baggage

Are the Jet Airways checkin counters at the international terminal still closed?

not anymore....jet will only honor this if you are connecting from an international jet flight....

I did international (TK) to Jet (Domestic) connection on separate ticket last month and there was no issue check in 2 bags.

actually its the other way around....the following is from an email received from jet a couple of months ago:

Domestic Baggage Allowance
With effect from October 1, 2011, if separate tickets are issued for domestic (India) and for the onward international connection(s), the domestic (India) baggage allowance will be honoured for travel within India on Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect or JetLite and for the onward international connection the respective international baggage allowance would apply

So whats the deal? Any word from those who have tried in the past couple days would be appreciated.

Is the check in counter at T2 for 9W still open? Do they still take bags for checking in?

Connecting from DL to 9W on separate tickets. Is this correct - only one free bag? Second bag costs $50?

Baggage allowance still based on the getting-the-agent-luck?

Edit:

Just called Jet. Apparently, its all based on weight. Total up the weight of two bags and anything over 20 kg would be charged at Rs.150/kg.
