Qatar Airways Privilege Club - Connecting on Air Asia from DOH at BKK: needed transit times?

Hi all!

My gf and I will be flying from DOH to BKK on May 14th (QR612 21:00-07:45 W class) and we want to get to Krabi asap so we're thinking about getting the air asia flight that leaves at 10:15AM. That gives us 2:30 to make the connection and we need to check bags.

I know about air asia reputation but they are significantly cheaper in that case! Is it doable?

Yes its doable. You want to get upstairs as soon as you get the bags though. I reckon you have half an hour to spare most likely.

I've not done AirAsia, but generally LCCs allow you to check in later than normal airlines


However my recent flight from DOH to SIN push backed almost 1 hour late due to delays with baggage being loaded. It was a 0030 flight and the airport was seriously crowded. Ended up reaching 35 mins late in SIN

Yes, its very doable. If it takes more that 45 minutes from alighting from the plane to clearing immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, then you've had a bad day. In my experience its usually more like 30 minutes, and that's using the normal, not fast track, immigration channels. It will take about 5 minutes from exiting customs on level 2 to arriving at the Air Asia check in area on level 4. Don't worry, you should make it with ease.

Air Asia check in closes 45 minutes before departure.

Air Asia may be cheap but i have found them to be always on time in the dozen or so flights i have used them. Enjoy your holiday

There is always the possibility that QR flight is delayed, although it is unlikely. If you miss your Air Asia flight, you need to buy a new ticket.

After all is said and done the FD flight will be about $25US cheaper than TG. Not sure that is significant in my book, but to each their own.
