Going to fly domestic SYD to LST. Is there much of a difference between Virgin Australia and Jetstar? Prices are similar. I noticed Jetsar lets one pick seats for a fee (we are flying in March 2012).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Yes, post-Borghetti Virgin is superior on all counts (and I say that as a decade-plus QF loyalist). Far more customer-focussed and pleasant to deal with - from the checkin process to when you leave the aircraft.
No contest.

Thanks for the response!
The only thing that seems different, is that if you purchase a saver ticket, you can add extra legroom seats (exit), but you are not able to select them. Seems like a high price to pay if one gets assigned the middle seat.

Don't waste a dollar flying Jetstar. Always cancelling flights or never on time...sub standard in the air
You can select Blue Zone tickets with Virgin by paying an extra fee...however the flight is not long and will be a pleasant flight

Thanks for the comments. We went ahead and booked flights on Virgin Australia. The base price was a few dollars more, but with luggage and fees almost $70 less.

To quote someone on either FT or AFF, "you could fly JQ everyday of the year on their cheapest ticket, and get absolutely no recognition (points/status). At least with VA, you get points/sc's".

You made the right choice! Hope you have a wonderful trip
