Hilton HHonors - Hilton announces wireless roll-out plans

I did a search and didn't see any previous posts for this. My apologies if I missed one.

"... Hilton Hotels and Resorts ... kicked off a 30-day trial Tuesday [11 March 2003] at nearly 50 of its hotels throughout North America. The hotel is offering high-speed Internet access hotspots that let Wi-Fi-enabled laptops (especially ones with the latest Centrino 802.11b chipset) access Internet networks wirelessly. The hotel said the first launch today is part of a system-wide rollout of wireless Internet access in all 230 of Hilton's full service hotel properties in the North America. The promotion will include signage that lets hotel visitors know about Intel's campaign to drive awareness of Wi-Fi (802.11b) hotspots, where wireless LAN capable notebook computer users can connect to the Internet and corporate networks wirelessly."

There are signs in the lobby of the Embassy Suites in Santa Clara, CA advertising this capability. The access point is in the Restaurant/lounge.

I'm wondering whether you'd be able to connect from a 3rd floor room (lowest floor with guest rooms). The 3rd floor is a smoking floor, however...

I just stayed at the embassey suites in St Louis that had hotel wide WiFi access. My 7th floor room had access throughout but poor connection when I was in the bedroom. The customer service people were a little surprised and took down room info. Sounds like they will keep making adjustments as needed. Once I was in a good position the access rate was great.

I think the reader comments pretty much sum up the way most of us feel.

$9.99 for 24 hours of access is a great deal, considering that hotels rape us for $2 per phone call.
