Hong Kong and Macau - Intercon or Ritz Carlton?

Staying mid Jan for one night on a long layover. I'll only have 6pm - 8am in the the hotel so not much time to fully "enjoy" it.
Been to HK as few times mostly in Grand Hyatt. I never get bored of a trip on the Star Ferry and a trip to the Peak (although less appeailing since they built that hideous complex up there!)
This time I just want the best view - I was actually thinking I might not even leave the hotel - a previously unthinkable concept - if I was in the RC with the view of Harbour and Island. Could be a better view than from the Peak even!
So it's $500 in IC vs $800 in the RC. Is the view that good? I suppose there's a chance of smog/fog that would be ironic....
Any opinions out there?

I've stayed at the IC within a similar time frame - the views are tremendous, especially from the Lobby Lounge. Combined with on-stage female torch singers, the Hong kongese ambiance, all on top of exquisite service, I would not hesitate on an IC experience.

View alone...IC beats the Ritz anyday since you have a unobstructed view of the HK side. The Ritz has a more angled view.

If by "angled" you mean "angled" from above, yes. But "obstructed" it isn't. Not even close.

I like the idea of the view from above (from the RC) - its about the same height as The Peak isn't it?
I've heard the rooms are a bit run down in the IC - a bit musty even. Whereas RC is brand new.
I live in HK: so no idea of RC's rooms. but when i was in their bar/cafe, the almost bird-eye view made it a bit weird. to me it feels too high up to see any part of HK.
IC has more of the WOW factor. of course, an old room would make it very different. but when i was last guested into a room, i didnt find it *old*

Yes, from above looking down whereas from the IC, you're looking directly across. The rooms at the IC are much older and some have the musty smell issue but view alone, IMO the IC is best.

I agree, but the view from the RC is definitely a novel "angle".

Definitely a new perspective as its rare to get that angled view. I think we're all just stuck on the iconic eyelevel skyline view as the 'norm'.

I was thinking that it may feel a bit like the expansive view from the Peak - it's about the same altitude - but without the foreground you get from the Peak.
I just thought it would be a novel experience to be up high. Nipping down for a round trip on the Star Ferry.
Bit extravagant I must admit!

I've never stayed at the HKG Ritz but a night in a Harbour View room at the IC should be a bucket-list type thing imo. It's one thing to go to see HK at night but it's something else to go to bed with that view out your window.

My 1st Post on FT!
I used to live in HK and on my last visit back, i stayed a night at the RC. Honestly, the view i had of a shipping channel and part of Sheung Wan wasn't great. But views from other parts of the hotel are excellent. For the money I paid, i would rather have stayed at the Intercon - which is infact what i'm doing on my next trip there next week!
Though I have to say, that the lounge at the RC was one of the best lounge experiences i've had!

In a similar vein, we are heading to Hong Kong for a week over Easter. In the past, we always stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Central, which sadly is no more.
Being 'island' types, we are now considering the Four Seasons, but as Ritz Carlton fans, we're thinking about defecting to Kowloon! Any advice?
Or since we're there for a week, should we stay in both?
Decisions, decisions!

Island-side there's the Mandarin Oriental which is my favourite hotel in HK, and the Landmark MO nearby which are in the same class as the FS or Ritz. The Conrad and JW Marriott in Admiralty are both great top hotels in my experience. Haven't stayed at the Landmark myself actually but I can confidently recommend the other three.
