S.P.A.M. - [conga] Klout -- Bonus points on CapitalOne based on your Social Media Reach

I got the following e-mail from CapitalOne this week about an upcoming bonus period that will give up to 10 miles per $1 spent based on your Klout score. From what I can tell, Klout creates a score based on your social media reach and how influential you are.

That said, please feel free to find me on:

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/derek.a.iversen
and Twitter: @derekiversen

This holiday season you can earn even more miles per dollar in a special promotion with Klout. It’s just one more way your No Hassle Rewards® help you get the most out of every purchase you make.

COMING SOON—EARN UP TO 10 BONUS MILES PER DOLLAR!
For a limited time you could earn bonus miles on all of your credit card purchases—on top of what you already earn—based on your Klout Score when you enroll. Plus, we’ll reward you with additional bonus miles when you get your friends to participate in this special offer. It’s our way of thanking you for spreading the word. That’s two easy ways to earn, and you could walk away with up to 10,000 bonus miles.

WHAT’S A KLOUT SCORE?
Klout is a free website that measures your social media influence based on Twitter and Facebook. The more you post and your friends engage with your posts, the higher your score. And don’t worry, it has nothing to do with your credit score. Learn more about Klout.

So keep watching your inbox for your invitation to start participating in this promotion. In the meantime, you can check your Klout Score, and even try to increase it before you respond to your bonus miles invitation. Until then, of course, you’ll continue to earn miles on every purchase just as you always have.

I saw this too. Linked my Facebook account and found out my Klout score....
wait for it... 1. That's right, 1. Oh well, I guess they don't account for MP or FT. I'm guessing I won't be getting much of a bonus. :D

Most of the people I know who work in the "social media" industry think Klout is a laughable joke gimmick...

But hey, I'd do a lot for miles/points.

It's too bad they are capping the promo at 10,000 miles...

Any idea how many bonus points can be expected for a low profile? If I can get 5 plus, I'm there with AP

I have a Klout score of 36 (up from 25 in a week BTW*) and I get 3x points for that. Only till Dec 18, so its not mindboggling.

* Klout only really meshes your fb and twitter activity and how often others 'liked' or RT/responded to your messages. If you have a decent following in twitter and frequently tweet stuff that people respond to your klout score can be easily in the 30-40 range.

4 per dollar bonus for me for a Klout of 45. Still trying to meet spend for the Sapphire, but I'll switch to VentureOne for a few days for that kind of bonus. I'm afraid it wouldn't be kosher to post the referral link here (belongs in SPAM no?), but you can find me on Twitter, @chelmkamp.

Klout is funny sometimes. I once posted a link to a news article about a botched circumcision on twitter, so for months Klout ranked me as influential about motherhood and circumcision!

There is no link to Cap 1 on his FB posts. Anyway to provide it?

Let's give him a chance to reply. Everyone else, please do not post links. You may not join the conga unless you use a referral and our OP has the first chance to start this off.

i'm going to start it off because the time is running out on the promo. mods, if this isn't the appropriate thing to do, then i understand a delete. but it's no use if people don't get in on it.

I was offered the extra 3 miles, so put $3,333 in spending on my Venture card... I'll post back when I see the 9,999 bonus miles.

My points haven't yet posted, but when I log into the promo page now, I see my spending for the promo period and the points expected (10,000 in my case).

Thanks for posting the information! I had no idea we could check there! I am only getting a little over 5K for the promo...but every little bit helps. I actually plan on cancelling the card and only pulled it out when I saw this promotion!! I sure hope they post it in February because I need to cancel in March to avoid the annual fee. As much as I like the card I feel the Chase Sapphire Preferred meets my needs a little better....

Call them and downgrade to the Venture One card, it has no annual fee.
