Hawaii - Hawaii trip coming Christmas help needed

Hi,

I've booked everything and left the car rentals at the end. Now I am unable to find a single car in Kona. My questions are

1. Is it that difficult to get car in Hawaii ?
2. In case we don't have car what are our options?

For Christmas? This late? Yes, it's difficult to find a car. Keep looking, they can sometimes be had. Other than that -- shuttle bus, taxi, tour operator, bicycle.

Thank you for your replies :)..I am there in Hawaii between 12/25 and 1/10. I am not finding cars in Kona (between 12/25 and 12/29). I never thought renting a car would be a problem (never faced before)..I did not even get a car on first day in Maui (12/29), but that's fine, since I've a car from 12/30.

I am currently weighing my options. I am not sure if I can survive without a car in Kona (meaning do the major attractions without the car)..If I can't get a car I might need to shorten my trip by reaching Maui directly on 12/29.

Thanks you wharvey, I really appreciate you getting back to me. But I ended up doing the following.

I got a car at Kauai in that time frame. So, I decided to go Kauai first and then go to Big Island in new year..I just posted a thread in dollar (car rental) forum. Since I was little paranoid on the reservation I got from dollar. Paid hefty fee for change in flights, but what can you do :)
