I'll be flying JFK-ICN on Dec 20 and returning Jan 4.

Currently booked in Y, but am Diamond Plus.

Wondering what you all think chances of an op-up are? :)

It all depends on if Y is sold out and there's seats still left in C/F or not. If so, your chances of being upgraded, being D+, are quite good I would say. If Y isn't full, or C and F is, then your chance is about zero.

In checking for your specific flight on the outbound, looks like at the moment everything is waitlisted in all cabins/classes except C in business:
FL AL C2 DL ZL JL YL BL ML HL EL QL KL SL VL LL WL TL GL
So your chances are probably good at the moment for an opup on that flight, unless C ends up getting sold out and no noshows or standbys to take their place.

For the return, there's still lots of availability in economy:
F2 A4 C2 DL ZL JL Y4 B4 M4 H4 E4 Q4 K4 SL VL LL WL TL GL
So not so good of a chance there, but with 4 weeks to go, things could very well change.

Agreed, Asiana never upgrades if there is room is Y regardless of status it seems. I wasn't able to travel the past couple of years and the wife and I have been downgraded to Gold on Asiana. Hoping to do more flying in the next year and get back to at least regular Diamond. We're on the 12/25 flight from SFO to ICN and it's so full that we can't prebook seats. Used to have a really good chance of being upgraded when I was Diamond but I doubt it now as Gold.

These days not much chance of upgrades on the long-hauls it seems. Most flights are full in C, same with biz-routes like Singapore and HK.
I have gotten upgrades on the leisure routes, like Kota Kinabalu, Siem Reap, Manilla and occasionally to China, but for the rest seems quite rare.

I don't fly much on the US routes, but from what I hear from friends, C is filling up well on those ATM too.

Good luck though!

Just to report back:

Not upgraded JFK-ICN; but upgraded ICN-HKG (with Y meal).

Next traveling on Jan 4, and am hoping for upgrade(s) then.
