Hilton HHonors - Using faxed copy of award cert: acceptable?
My requested HH3 award certificate got lost in the mail somehow. My stay is next week.
Hilton faxed me a copy of the certificate today. The comments in my original reservation cross-reference the type (HH3) and the number of the award cert.
Would the faxed copy of the certificate be sufficient at check-in?
FWIW, my stay is in Paris. Are European hotels more strict about the use of certificats?
I have used a faxed award cert for an ALON stay without any problems. I think faxing is the modus operandi for delivery of awards that need to be expedited.

You should have no problem whatsoever.

Often times they dont even ask for the fax. I believe its already in the system.

The diamond desk is also now experimenting with emailed award instead of fax.
I've always used a faxed certificate, as I've never been given any other option by HHonors when requesting an award...
Smooth, have a great time in Paris!
Aloha.

I don't even remember the last time the hotel even asked for the certificate. You should be fine.

I just booked my first award stay and received my "cert" in the mail. It looks like an HTML-looking printout - not an "official" looking document on card stock or anything. I'm sure a fax copy will be no problem.

Does everyone realize that you can print out your own certificates (maybe not for VIP awards...). When you complete the online process you're presented certificate on a web page - hit the "PRINT" button (more than once if you're the type that loses things) and you're done.
I issued two certificates for a trip last October and then decided to save some points and pay for a room for one of the stays - HH said to throw away the certificate rather than sending it in, and the points went back into the account.

Not for VIP awards; you have to phone HHonors for these. However, I just received a GLONP (one of the VIP awards) by fax. MUCH faster than postal mail and (as mentioned above) best for awards that need to be expedited.

P.S.: If you don't already know this, you can get a FREE, receive-only fax-by-email account at www.efax.com (http://www.efax.com) . Or you can pay about $10 a month for both send and receive capability.
