Hilton HHonors - The most unusual Hampton Inn ever!

I've stayed in about 40 or 50 Hampton Inns around the country and they all can be pretty much lumped into good vs. awful and/or indoor corridor vs. exterior entrances. We all can agree that they pretty much all look the same.

I am presently in the beautiful little town of Lexington, Virginia (home of VMI) and just checked myself into the most amazing Hampton Inn in the entire chain.

The main building has been registered as a national historic landmark. The mansion and private residence was built in 1827 and consists of a 328 acre plantation. This stunningly beautiful home has been restored right down to the most minute detail. There is an elegant dining room for the complimentary Hampton breakfast. In nice weather, you can opt to eat your breakfast on the wraparound porch. I'll discover tomorrow morning how the breakfast compares to other Hampton Inns. There is also a cozy library/reading room and the check in staff was as friendly as they come. Ask them about the mansion and they can give you details like a professional historian.

As a Diamond member, I was upgraded to a room with period reproduction furniture, a gas fireplace, evening turndown service and a view of the woods surrounding the plantation.

The Hampton Inn Lexington Col Alto has my vote for the best one in the chain!

I've got to agree with you about the Lexington HI. I stayed there a few months ago on my way through VA. It's definitely not one of the cookie-cutter Hampton Inn's. Its the classiest of the Brand that I've seen.

Two other interesting Hamptons. Columbus, Ohio down town on High St. Old converted bilding... Very nice Very Different.

The other one is downtown Savannah, GA.. Again, either old and converted or looks old and converted

I would add Freeport Maine to this list; it was an old bed and breakfast; a historic building; the nicest one I've ever been in; head and shoulders above the rest

The downtown Indianapolis Hampton is also in a registered National Historic landmark Building. The Hamptons in the middle of cities tend to have much more interesting architecture than the cookie-cutter Interstate ones. A big expection is the uptown Charlotte one - from the outside, the only word to describe it is blech!
