Africa - Accra or Lagos? (starting point)

I'm trying to find ways to burn SWU's (UA and CO), and since I've never been to Africa, this would be a starting point. I have a choice of flying into Accra (from IAD on UA) or Lagos (from IAH on CO), would probably only spend a night or two, then head to South Africa.

Which is easier, safer, or more interesting to do?

I would not go to Lagos no matter what. Accra might be ok but would just go to South Africa. I think it is a lot safer.

For reasons I do not know, the leg of the UA flight out of IAD between ACC and LOS is often cancelled. The flight to ACC is much more reliable.

Stay away from Lagos if you can. The place is a zoo and a very expensive one. A decent hotel will easily cost you $350/night and there really isn't much to do there as a tourist.

Take it from this frequent visitor to West Africa - go straight to the RSA; if you really have to torture yourself, then do it in Accra, where at least it is approximately not utterly dangerous.

Lagos is less funny. :D

The reason is that the flight no longer operates to Lagos. So "often" is actually "always". :D

Accra might be ok but would just go to South Africa. I think it is a lot safer.

From solely a safety perspective, Accra >>>> Johannesburg >> Lagos.

From a things to do perspective, Johannesburg >>>>>>>> Accra > Lagos.

Accra and Lagos are not big touristy towns.
