Hilton HHonors - Doubletree Minneapolis Airport?

Anyone stay at the Doubletree Minneapolis Airport at the Mall recently? Do they offer upgrade to Gold/Diamond member regularly or we need to ask for it? It looks like a quite new hotel compared to Hilton Minneapolis Airport.
This hotel is scheduled to be torn down soon as part of a runway expansion if memory serves me. (The biulding is too tall for the flight path I hear) I have never stayed there, but do stay in the area a lot.
The Hilton is older, and the upgraded rooms are not much biger than the regular ones except they are up on the "honors" floor. They have an ok elite lounge. They have BroadBand for 9.99 per day.
The embassy suites is the same as all ES's. The food is ok, but no Broadband.
There is a Homewood suites closer to the Mall'o'merica than all of the other properties. You could walk easily from there, even in winter. All of the properies have shuttles to the mall.
So I can tell you about all the HH properties except the one that you are going to. The DT appears to be a nice property from the street. Good Luck, and if you need any other MSP info feel free to email me or ask here. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I have stayed at the MSP DT several times but my stays are never as pleasant as they are at the Hilton. In my opinion the rooms at the Hilton are nicer and the staff has a general clue on the Honors program.
One thing that I found odd at the DT is that they are not connected to the Hilton centralized reservation or HHonors system. The last time I stayed there they didn't believe that I was a Diamond member and refused to honor any upgrade or give me access to the executive floor. I did eventually get it after insisting that the front desk manager call the Honord Diamond desk to confirm it. The system that they utilize for loging your points and miles is a 3 ring binder that everything is written in and at a later date (once a week, I think...) they call or send in all of the info at once.
The last thing that bugs me there is you have to have a key card to get to the exec floor but the key readers in the elevators are very tempremental. The elevator on the far left as you are looking at them works the best.
I try to stay at the Hilton or Embassy whenever possible.

Thanks, SoldIt and JPL9869 for your comments!! Was too late to switch, so here's our DT Minneapolis Airport comment:
- Has airport shuttle pick up every 15 min.
- Didn't have to wait long for checkin (may be 'cause we didn't get there till 10:30pm)
- Not sure if this is the same hotel JPL9869 talked about linking w/ HHonors system.. they did have our diamond number in system and we were upgraded to exe room on top floor.
- Got 2 Cookies.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
- No Broadband.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
- Nice decor and v clean room
Overall, a possible choice for MSP airport, we however prob will try Hilton next time (because of broadband).
