It was just announced here in Brazil that Delta will buy U$ 100 million worth of American Depositary Shares at Gol (G3).

I wonder what will be the effects on Gol's FF program Smiles.

Delta will have a seat at Gol's Board of Advisors...

The musical chairs/ merry-go-round continues. Before AA managed to snag GOL as a partner in Brazil, TAM was an AA partner a few years ago, before they joined *A. Then Avianca which was a previous DL partner also decided to join *A.

Now LAN's merging with TAM which will likely keep LATAM in OneWorld and TAM will be out of *A. So AA gets the Brazilian partner service and likely does not need GOL - and LATAM may not even want the AA-GOL partnership to continue. So GOL is possibly teaming up with Delta and may even enter SkyTeam to create a currently non-existent South American airline presence (although DL and other SkyTeam carriers do service SAm destinations).

Not to mention part of GOL (Varig) was originally *A.

Round and round and round we go.

Let's not forget that RG was DL's partner before they entered Star Alliance. It was because of the agreements with Delta that RG was not free to become a founder member of Star.
