Hilton HHonors - HHonors Exchanges (transfers?)

Howdy -- I'm new to the world of points and miles and whatnot. I'm looking at the HHonors card, and I'm wondering about exchanging points for airline miles. It says that I only get 1,500 airline miles for 10,000 points. Are those actual physical miles? or are those the miles of which it takes 20-25k of to fly anywhere in the US?
Thanks!

Oh, and trust me (us)... you're going down the wrong path thinking that earning points and transferring to miles is beneficial. That transfer rate is really bad, and rarely ever worth it.
