I have been staying at Hilton's. Thanks to
Eugene keeping me here. I just checked my AA
account and some Hilton double dip bonuses
posted along with- Hilton Elite 2002 Bonus in
amount of 1,000 AA points. What is this?
How many Hilton stays before it posts? Can
I get it for every so many stays? I did not
see anything about this online at the Hilton
website. Thanks

I believe you're getting a 1,000 AA miles bonus for every 4 stays at Hilton, based on your AA elite status. You won't find this bonus at the Hilton website though. Look it up on aa.com, it's part of your 2002 elite benefits.

a somewhat tangential question - how long does it take for the standard 500 double dip miles to post to AA?

Thanks.

Is there either an AA or HH site for all the details on AAGU? One question: am I correct in assuming this is in addition to the double dipping mileage you get if you designated an airline FF?

AAGU is available only to AA Platinum and Executive Platinum members. The terms and conditions of the program are given in the "2002 Platinum Offers" tab on aa.com.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">
Hilton HHonors®
VIP Membership Offer

Enroll now in Hilton HHonors® and be automatically enrolled as a Gold VIP member. This membership normally requires 16 stays in a calendar year. And, with just four qualifying stays within 90 days of enrollment, you will receive an extra 1,000 AAdvantage miles.
To enroll in Hilton HHonors, call 1-800-HHONORS and request Origin Code AAGE.
If you are already an HHonors® member, but would like to benefit from this special offer, call the HHonors Customer Service Center at 1-800-548-8690 and request Origin Code AAGU.
Subject to availability. Some blackout dates may apply.

Just completed this one. The info is only availble to AA elites when you log into your account online.

I am plat so once I log in to aa.com there is a link to "Platinum Offers" just near the net savers.

Click this and then go to accomodation and it gives you the details. There are different codes for existing and new HHonors members.

Automatic 1,000 miles after 4 stays in 90 days. You are correct, this is in addition to the regular double dip miles.

I received Gold VIP via AAGU and I have no status with AA. The phone agent asked how I had heard about the offer, but never said I was not eligible. I changed my miles-earning partner to AA before I called to enroll, I don't know if it made a difference or not.

I became Gold last week after calling 1800hhonors and requesting AAGE. No questions asked (also not for my AA account#: I'll probably miss out on the bonus miles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif). Actually I should have used AAGU since I already was enrolled in HHonors (as Silver) but the CSR didn't mind: he pushed some buttons and voìla two minutes later it said on the HHonors site that I'm Gold. Still waiting for my card so I'm not sure when it will expire.

Signed spouse up for AAGU without even registering an AA # with Hilton. Received instant gold status and several weeks later received gold card with an expiration date of 4/2004. It was reported on these boards somewhere that this offer is good until the end of 2003. What if you are already gold, but an expiring gold in 4/2003? Would this extend your gold status? Hilton is SO generous!!!

Oct 7, 02, 4:08 pm
AAGU got me Gold until 04/04 - I did it two months ago.

I can confirm there was no verification of my AA status by Hilton - even tough I am AA Plat - they just plugged me into Gold straight away.

It will be interesting to see if the 1,000 AA miles show up for non-elites using this promo - you would think AA would atleast verify this but there is also a chance that Hilton just transmits the 1,000 mile addition to AA who passes it through like the 500 mile double dips.

It's the promo code for AA Platinum members (that requirement appears not to be enforced by HH) to get an instant Gold status with HH, plus 1,000 bonus AA miles after 4 stays.

I asked twice last week for the AAGU promo, the first time the CSA said "o.k., you're all set." So the next day I loged in and still said silver, so I called again and inquired why and the CSA said "you have to give your AAdvantage number" so I did. I had a stay this weekend that hasn't posted yet and at least 3 coming up this month. Will I suddenly turn to gold after the 4th stay posts? I thought I read where others were turning gold overnight!

If I do have to call hhonors and ask why, are weekends a bad time? Seems like long hold times.

Thanks in advance for any insight...

DAL, you'd become the latest HHFT hero if you called back and acted like you were all worried they screwed up, and asked them what code is in your "tier upgrade" area or field. If it is something other than AAGU, search for it (it could already exist) or post a new thread.

And... Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Success! I called back today and spent 20 minutes discussing this with the cs agent. Finally she said she would talk to her supevisor, and when she came back said that her supervisor was going to add the promotion. I just checked online, and I'm listed as an HHonors Gold VIP! The little rotating banner thing still has the Silver promotions, but that'll probably catch up in a day or so. Thanks all for the suggestions!

Sorry, no hero here. Asked nice CSR agent which promo turned me gold, I needed to know how many stays or nights, and she said just the normal stays/nights per calendar year. Said I would get 1000 AA miles with 4 stays in the next 90 days (thought I had to have 4 stays to remain gold). I asked if I would get the miles even though I've opted to get the 50% bonus HH points and she said yes. So I guess the CSR just magically turned me gold http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I just got off the phone with the HHonors desk and asked if they would still let me register for the (AAGU) or whatever it was and they enrolled in a promotion where I need 4 stays within a month to get Gold Status. I wondering if this is a new promotion and what does Hilton consider a "Stay"?

RoadWeary
Mar 6, 03, 8:29 pm
I don't know if there is a new promo or not. Four stays in a month is a much steeper requirment than most other promos, usually you have more time.

A stay is one reservation, or check-in, check out cycle at a hotel. A stay might be overnight, or a week or more.

You can simply move from hotel to hotel to bump up your number of stays.

Points Scrounger
Mar 6, 03, 8:31 pm
It used to be 4 stays within 90 days I thought?

As for "stay" - pretty much anything paid other than Priceline/Hotwire/etc. where you're bidding blind on an unknown hotel brand.
Expedia, etc. where you know it's Hilton when you agree is OK.
Oddly enough, an award stay should count, too, if you had some orphan HHonors points but no status I believe.

A "stay" also means that you need to vacate the premesis of a specific property for a day before checking in again (no back-to-back check-ins). You can hop between area Hilton properties on consecutive nights on the same trip to rack up stays (Hampton A -- Hampton B -- Hampton A, again).

Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick replies. It may be a 90 day promo. The Guy I was talking to didn't seem to know what he was talking about. I asked him the question about what they consider a stay and he said my upcoming stay at the Doubletree Keywest for two nights would count as two stays... So What if I booked two rooms? would that count as two stays or one?

So...for those that sign up after 2/28, can u call and asked agent to read promo code in your account??

BTW...nice agent says he'll sign me up for the fast_track of 4 nights to gold. Doesn't help too much...cos' I already have 9 stay todate. I can easily hit the Gold in a month or two the hard way.

Sharing is what it is all about, stealing is not. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
A great deal of discussion took place last year regarding the AA codes for Hilton Gold am I will not repeat most of the arguments against and in favor of publishing those codes.
I personally believe that airlines give their elites privileges that provide them with certain advantages. If we take advantage of these we will loose them. Last year AA did not put limits on the use of the codes (Hilton did not ask for your AA #). I hope NW will keep tabs on the use of the codes.
BTW. You should consider the use of these codes carefully since you will need to obtain gold on your own to maintain status. Once you use the promotion (regradless of where it came form) Hilton will not give you gold again. In other words, Hilton will give you one year for gold, after that you must earn it yourself. You will not be able to use different codes year after year.

Valentino
Mar 28, 03, 2:22 pm
I personally will not be using the codes. But these codes are easily available even if I don't post it. I probably just saved someone an extra step to do a seach on yahoo or any search engine. And thats how I got it - using yahoo seach engine.

If the codes are available on the net it does not make it right to publish them here. You can get plans to build a bomb on the net, does it make it alright then. Not a good defence. I would suggest that you edit your original post.

The analogies on FlyerTalk tend to be a little extreme, don't they? I would suggest that he not edit his post. Those who feel it to be morally reprehensible can then choose not to use the codes. Some religions consider dancing to be immoral, but I just gotta dance. Didn't Kevin Bacon win that right for us a long time ago?

Hmm...looks like NW "drew the plan for the bomb and post it publicly." NW probably didn't care since there are so many similar promotions out there. Or just call HHonors and they will hook you up with their own 4 nights gold promotion - FTG1. Or use your AMEX code.

I signed up for this promo in December last year. Around 2pm today, I became silver, why?

Can anyone clarify the AAGU promo, I didn't print it off. Any suggestions. I called the CSR about 1 month ago when I received my Silver card. I don't want to bother the CSR's if I am wrong, but from my understanding I should be gold.

Folks, if properly entered into the system, AAGU was supposed to give you an instant gold status and 1,000 bonus AA miles after every 4 stays.

That said, on numerous occasions poorly trained CSR's did not properly enter the code in the "Tier Upgrade Area" on their screens, thus creating problems for those affected.

Eugene,

AAGU does not work anymore...I think it was only good up until February 28th 2003. So even if a CSR entered AAGU correctly now in the "Tier Upgrade Area" it would not "take effect" in the database since the effective date of the promo has passed

With that said...we know that HHonors will NOT grant status..even if you call in and are nice http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Can anyone else add to Eugenes comments?

I am well aware of that. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Actually, AAGU has expired on February 28.

But... nothing would stop a helpful CSR to rectify a mistake made by one of his/her associates by simply upgrading your status, provided you'd be able to make a good case for it.

Will it be $100 total or per occasion? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

There have been numerous reports of such things posted on FT, not to mention my personal experiences.

Like many others I had this same problem today. I called HHonors a minute ago and a very nice agent said the code was entered in the wrong place (typical) and that I should have a new Gold card soon.

I had the same problem. I signed up for AAGU in January, but received a silver card in April. I called customer service and was told that the code was entered in the wrong place and that a new card was on its way. I received the new gold card yesterday, and as an unexpected bonus, the expiration is April 2005!

I called this morning,
She said because I signed up for AAGU in December, that it would expire 5 months later in April. That was the policy.

She also said I could become Gold if I would stay 16 days in the next year http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

JJeffrey, washflyer -- Congratulations! Never underestimate the power of polite yet confident demeanor.

smilee -- Don't give up, at least not yet. I'm not completely sure what the official policy on AAGU was in terms of status expiration date, but call again and see if another agent would be more sympathetic. You have absolutely nothing to lose. Having firm travel plans involving HH stays in the near future might help too.

geneva -- I'll take my check now... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Alternatively, if you prefer, you can just buy me a round or two next time I'm in Denver ($100 CAD should about cover that)...

My case was even a bit more extreme in that I procrastinated a bit too long on calling in with the AAGU code (I'm an AA Plat member). When I finally called HH in late March, the CSR entered the code and said I was all set. Of course when I checked back later, I was still Silver.

I called in again and got a very nice CSR, after chatting a bit and redeeming an ALON award, he agreed to upgrade me to Gold anyway... but I wasn't supposed to tell anyone... whoops!

My Gold package came in the mail a few weeks later, along with my card that expires in 2005. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Geneva,

Why would you offer such a bad gift to a nice man like Eugene? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif The minimum you should do is to offer him in Green dollars! HH Agent said that AAGU expired 2/28/03, but there are others via AA to get either instant or Fastrack higher Tier. Is this correct? Do you know such?

The promotion you mention was abused en masse by ineligible customers, largely because of posts on this board. AA and Hilton have not renewed this arrangement, and this should come as no surprise. (I said this would happen in earlier threads, and suggested these codes only be shared over e-mail)

AA, and other airlines, on occasion provide certain hotel companies with info about their frequent fliers that fit certain travel patterns, and those customers may be offered a complimentary tier or targeted qualification offers directly.

Hilton has now shut the door on easy upgrades to Gold VIP - gotta earn it the hard way.

I agree that on this board, many people shared the information about the AAGU promotion. However, I would assume that the majority of people who read this board are frequent flyers with elite status on some airline program, and would likely be eligible for this promotion myself included. In fact, although I was elite with AA, I was unaware of this promotion and the benefits HH gold would bring. The sharing of information on this board made me sign up for the promotion, and sway some of my stays to Hilton properties. If anything, I believe that this board probably helps to promote Hilton’s product. Similarly, the Hyatt board also promotes its product and also has many terrific promotions which is now where my stays are going, especially since I lost Gold with Hilton (but managed to get diamond from Hyatt http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ).

Although I have probably posted this many times, I would think that Hilton should be pleased with promoting its status as the cost benefits of giving a free continental breakfast and making individuals feel like they are special, would only sway individuals to be more loyal with that chain and book more hotel rooms nights.

As discussed previously on many posts, Hilton did not lose anything on all these promotions. Far from it. Currently, comps are given on a case by case basis.

What abuse?
How much of an abuse could it have been when Hilton more than likely attracted a new group of customers? I am sure Hilton made out in more ways than one with those promotions. The customers still had to pay for the rooms, did they not?
Let's be frank a room upgrade only occurs when it is not already sold, so more than likely the room would have went empty. Even in good times most hotels barely get past 65% occupancy(only certain properties do and you would get no comp regardless of your status beyond a free newspaper and breakfast).

I think what was irking the other members was that there would be more Gold Members competing for a finite number of UGs and perks. As an earned member, they felt like the program was getting diluted and fast. Many don't realize that this is not so much a loyalty program as it is a part of a huge marketing ploy to fill rooms. Hilton definitely did not lose out on this.

It's the same debate that rages anytime an airline or hotel chain gets a little too comp-happy.

The thing that we sometimes fail to see (me included) is that we are a little bit wierd here on FT. By that I mean that we are probably the 0.1% of business travelers that even pay attention to what things like "AAGU" mean. We are the ones that pay ridiculously close attention to status comps, fast tracks, and bonus promotions. I think we sometimes forget that we are vastly in the minority, even among other active travelers.

Last year, AA went wild comping Plat all over the place. HH went wild with Gold. Still, I'd bet that the ratio of revenue-seat-miles flown by "real" Plats to RSM's flown by "fake" Plats was 10000 to 1 or more. Paid-room-nights by "real" HH Golds probably outnumber paid-room-nights by AAGU/CNTU Golds by 1000 to 1. By the time the ratios get much closer, the fake elites by definition have earned real status, which is Hilton's or American's goal to begin with.

In other words, odds are pretty slim that you are really losing hotel suites or first-class seats to "fake" elites.

It seems to me that these promos benefit mostly the companies involved. They do considerable thinking, research, testing and they get the customers hooked on their brand or product. If and when the offering companies do not get the desired results they simply amend their programs. In a sense these are "LOSS LEADER" advertisements. I am sure not most of you, but in my case I have taken extra trips, arrived a day or two early and stayed longer motivated by FF points. Please also remember that hotels are dealing with perrishable products-it cost very little for them to promote a room which was not reserved.

This offer was intended for AAdvantage EXP & Plat ONLY. Anyone who did not hold a current membership card for one of those two levels, in that program, was ineligible.

When random people rang the call centre and used the code it cost AA money. Do you really think it was a mutually beneficial arrangement? The fact no comparable offer exists anymore speaks for itself.

I am not against comps, and indeed a lot of customers that used this offer have brought new business to Hilton. I just think the abuse of this code was the wrong way to go about it. Those of us that earn or are otherwise ligitimately entitled to these offers are now missing-out bigtime because of wanton recklessness and greedy behavior.

Remember - WAY more people read these posts than the number of people that take the time to post on the actual thread. So when a code is posted here, at the very least multiply the number of thread replies by 10 to get the minimum number of people that are seeing it. I entirely support sharing codes amongst Flyertalkers whether eligible or not. But this should be done in a much more controlled way, ideally by an "e-mail me for the code" type post, to avoid losing these offers in the future.

I am personally not in favor of direct comps... but one where you have to fast track it. I know last year for Elite members, CO & NW had a fast track to HH Gold - 4 stays in 90 days. I think that was fair... there is revenue involved for Hilton and probably continuing revenue.

Hilton made money in my case on the AAGU plan. From zero stays to 14 nights since February. Starwood went to zero as a result and I have subsequently lost gold in their program. It has further helped me consolodate my hotel stays into three categories depending on what part of the world I happen to be in where I should be able to requalify for gold based on stay requirements. To me, that sounds like good business as those who sign up but do not actually stay do not occupy rooms and will lose their status before too long. All it will have cost Hilton is a program package and stamp.

If either company (Hilton or AA) increased their program base by a defined number of customers, I'm sure they consider the promotion a success. I moved the bulk of my hotel stays from Marriott to Hilton after achieving Gold status. I would not have had the Gold status in the first place if AA had not made the offer to Platinum members. I suspect the promotion was withdrawn when their target/targets was/were met.

Same here. I was a Marriott Gold but I knew I'd not make the required 50 nights this year under the Marriott rules. I'll have no problem with making HH diamond, though -- and I've got about 30 Hilton nights so far this year. HH certainly got their money's worth out of AAGU promo from me. I've not flown AA in about 11 years.
