So I'll be in Riomaggiore tomorrow and after which will be going to Florence through Pisa.
I want to visit the leaning tower for just an hour or so but I have a suit case and a 7kg laptop bag.

I understand I can check in my suitcase for 4 euros at the train station. Don't think it would be wise to check in my laptop bag.

My alternative is to skip the checking in of suitcase and just drag everything to the leaning tower. My suitcase is really easy to wheel on flat ground but on otherwise it's major hassle.

So anyone can tell me if the roads to Pisa are smooth flat grounds?

Should I take my luggage with me, or is there a direct bus I can take ?

Thanks for the help!

I would recommend checking your suitcase, seems to be well worth the 4 Euro given your time constraints.

And yes, there is a direct bus between Stazione Centrale and the area around the tower -- take Linea 4 from the station to Piazza Arcivescovado. Should be a 15 to 20 minute ride.

+1 for checking your bags. The roads are fine (it's not all cobble like you find in Rome), but you still wouldn't want to haul your bags around. If you're planning on going to the top of the tower, the bags are a non-starter and the lockers they have on the tower grounds for backpacks, etc. wouldn't accomodate your suitcase. I believe they would fit a normal sized laptop bag.

Be aware the you might not be able to climb the Tower. Tickets are timed entrances .... and even in the fall, sometimes the wait can be 2+ hours in the morning (might be less in the winter...depending on how many visitors) or they can be sold out altogether for the day.

I hope you have more than an hour for the whole deal or you don't have enough time. We waited for that bus for some time, like maybe 20 minutes, before we even made the maybe 10 minute or so drive to get there. You can definitely see the whole thing in a quick hour, but the whole experience would take longer than that. On the upside, the luggage check is quick and easy and you should definitely do that. It would be a total hassle to lug your suitcase along.
