oneworld - Intra-European redemptions fees - BAEC or OW issue?

I'm member of BAEC and I'm looking at available redemption. Due to my travel path I think most of my redemption will be intra-European or intra-US (longhaul must be paid to renew status) even though I know it's not extra value. Now, I was shocked how large are fees and taxes on intra-European redemption on metal other than BA's. Now my question is: Is this only BAEC issue (would moving to another program help) or generally problem of oneworld and I would still get those taxes if I was member of another program? They even charge you "BRITISH AIRWAYS fees and surcharges" (a.k.a fuel surcharge) on NIKI metal.

Intra-US redemptions seem OK with taxes being approximately 3 EUR.

It is standard for European frequent flyer programs to charge taxes and fuel surcharges on redemption which are higher than many flyers, especially North America-based flyers, would expect. British Airways currently has an offer whereby anyone who has collected at least 1 Avios in the last 12 months will have the fees and taxes capped at €27 return (€7 extra in business) for redemption bookings on British Airways within Europe.

So it's not so much a "problem of oneworld" as a "custom in Europe", with BA giving the special offer I mentioned.

Thanks :) I know about BA offer, but I don't plan to fly to the UK so much next period. I think I just keep miles :)

If its any consolation the fees on LH inter-europe awards are sometimes more than the revenue price.....so it is not BA specific
