Thailand - Honeymoon in Thailands over NYE?

We're thinking about taking spending our honeymoon in Thailand on a 12-13 night trip that will span NYE. It would be our first time there (flying out of LAX).

Any recommendations for nice areas not to be missed, beaches, etc?

Where would you spend NYE? Bangkok? Samui?

I'll be in BKK for NYE with some friends. We want to watch the fireworks along the river then out on the town!

Is by the river the place to be for NYE?

Yes. The riverside area is the best place to be in BKK on NYE lots of gala parties at the hotels and big fireworks between Pen/MO, Millennium Hilton/ROS, and near Shangri-La. Alternatively, you could joint the countdown crowds at Central World Plaza in Ratchaprasong, for concerts and something a bit more like Times Square. And, of course, Silom and the party sois on Sukhumvit are rocking too.
