Is there a way to get the highest Celebrity Captains Club membership without going on a bunch of cruises?

NO, but you can lower the total number of cruises - to reach Elite - by booking a suite for 14 nights or longer on each of the ones you do take. That way, each cruise gives you 3 points -- 1 for the cruise, 1 for the suite, and 1 for the longer than 14 nights (IIRC).:)

Thanks for the info :). I am four cruises in so I really don't have that long of a ways to go, but was curious if there was a shortcut. Do you know if there is some type of credit card that you can use to earn points when booking a cruise?

RCI (the parent company of Celebrity) offers a credit card. But it won't earn status, only OBC.

The Celebrity Visa was discontinued this past winter. The Royal Caribbean Visa remains but only earns perks on the same product, not on Celebrity.

If you are a Royal Caribbean Diamond or Diamond Plus member, you will get Celebrity Elite status automatically as well.

former top tier in both programs that have been diluted to not worth anything if you know what you are doing ie...pre departure/embarkation lounge.is a joke...etc....

I have to thank the parent company, RCL, for this dilution in their elite program for pushing me to higher and better cruising like Regent, Paul Gaugan, Crystal, etc.

NO MORE NICKLE AND DIME by the other cruise lines is the best benefit ever.

Celebrity Captains Club / RCL Diamond status free booze in a small room and cheap apps does not make up for their cost cutting measures.

Unfortunately that perk has also been changed. It used to be free drinks from 5pm-8:30pm but now it's only free fountain drinks, champagne and wine with a 25% discount on other drinks. Definitely made a difference in my bar tab this past week.

I'm with you Centurion, I'll be cruising more with Crystal and Radisson.

Was this on an RCL ship that has a Diamond lounge? On ships without a Diamond lounge they do offer only wine, champagne and soft drinks with 25% discount on other drinks, but I was under the impression that ships with a Diamond Lounge (i.e. Freedom class and above) still offer the complimentary happy hour.

Celebrity's happy hour is from 5 -7pm with complimentary alcohol drinks; very nice.

I sailed on the Jewel of the Seas so no Diamond Lounge. However, there were so many Diamonds, that not only did we have the Concierge Lounge, we also had the Hollywood Lounge and the Crown & Anchor every evening.

About 2 days into the cruise, they started posting security at the entrances because non Diamond Plus members were realizing there was free wine and champagne.

I think companies like RCCL which owns Royal, Celbritity ,Amazara, etc are in for a rude awakening. You can only sucker so many people with cheap cruise prices and hit them with a big bill when they leave the ship.

Prior years the customer received value or more important perceived they were getting a good value. I have met former RCCL customers who have moved on and forward to other cruise lines that do not nickel and dime the customer.

Princess seems to be treating their frequent cruisers with nice little perks and respect. You're right - it's the "feeling" of being treated special just as much as the reality.

What is disappointing though is that you do not get an additional tick in your Royal Caribbean sailings count when you take a Celebrity cruise.

Does Celebrity typically offer nicer/better benefits for its elites than RC both on board and at the pre-sailing check-in area?

Check in area is the same as Royal. On board, the Elite coupon books are slightly better than what is offered on Royal, and the daily Elite free cocktail time seems nicer with more offerings as well.

Does anybody know how the one category upgrade works in detail: On which ship for which room categories is it available. And how do I book this?

On all Celebrity ships it is valid for basic inside (categories 12-09) and ocean view (categories 08-04). It is not valid for balconies and above. So if you want an ocean view, and for example you like the category 06, you book that category and then either your agent will get it priced down to a category 07, or if you booked it yourself call the Captain's Club and they will do it for you.

So if I booked a balcony room on my own (through my credit card company's travel agency), I can call Captain's Club with my Crown and Anchor number (10+ sailings) and get a one-cabin upgrade for free? Or am I misunderstanding?

Elites from RC also get the coupon booklets and cocktail reception invitations on Celebrity as well, right? We are 10+ sailing elites with RC and booked a small suite category on Celebrity.

No. It's only valid for interior (insides) cabins and ocean view cabins. Balconies and suites are not included in the upgrade.

If you have Diamond status with Royal, make sure and call the Captain's Club with your information, and they will issue you a number that shows as Elite.
